There's no way you could accuse them of impersonating Stagecoach, these buses are far too new and they aren't belching out thick clouds of acrid black smoke.

4Canal! That Atlantean is a rare beast indeed! For those unenlightened to the ways of the bus, the Atlantean was designed and usually built as a double deck although a small number were built as single deckers. This one was originally built for Portsmouth Corporation and carried a Pennine body, a subsidiary of the truck builder Seddon.

But heres a part from a link as to why they were actually banned from operating.

But they appealed the ruling, which also found they interfered with services run by Stagecoach, failed to display valid operator licences, failed to register their services and interfered with bus stop arrangements in Perth city centre.A new hearing was heard before Deputy Traffic Commissioner Tom McCartney, who found that Ptarmigan Transport Solutions Ltd, trading as Bankfoot Buses, had lied to the earlier tribunal and to him at a public inquiry. He also found that Bankfoot Buses had run buses branded "Stag coach" - with only the "E" in Stagecoach removed.

Its quite possible that they learned all their dirty tricks from stagecoach.

Possibly, shame they just tried to do them when people would actually realise foul play was occuring.

Poacher turned gamekeeper? Or are you going to send a post that's on the same route as this one very soon after at a vastly reduced fair? Not that "Stag Coach(sic)" would ever dream of such a non-competitive practice.

Agh I might just be tired, but im slightly concerned this is aimed at me? :?

But anyway, I didnt realise sending out buses in front of other operators ones was in anyway not allowed. When I used to go to Dunstable, Centrebus and Arriva used to do it all the time! Centrebus were alot cheaper, but their entire fleet was at that time pretty shabby.

It's not aimed at either of you!!! :D:D:D:D Sorry if it seemed that way, it was just a side-swipe at some well-known Scottish private bus company tactics, post-deregulation. Why do you think they got so large?

I remember the news reports the day the buses in Glasgow were deregulated, some companies had some poor feckers dress up in animal suits and handing out tickets/souvenirs/bucky to the new customers!

Haha it just clicked in my head what you meant! Yeh Stagecoach got big from making sure their rivals got next to no passengers on their routes. They have the monopoly of transport round here, Trains and Buses are both owned by Stagecoach group. Their prices arent that bad...... but it would be good to have competition. But I just wish they would give us some newer buses on this route, ever since I moved here 8 years ago its been Dart Dashes, and I bloody hate them. On the odd occasion we get an ex Hong Kong Dart, and they are nice. Getting on abit now though. They scrapped 75% of all their good Volvo BMs last year, I think its something to do with disability access......

The Glasgow Herald article noted that they were also banned from operating buses due to fraudulent claims for something along the lines of service subsidies. They had their red VR at Lathalmond last year, possible preservation prospect I hope, if the company ets permanantly banished to the naughty step.

By strange coincidence I was reading about TBK 196K in "Preserved Municipal Buses" Vol 2 over Christmas. As the book was published in 1996 I'd had a quick look to see where it had been since.

Rather like withdrawn locomotives returning to the main line, I find it quite amusing to see "obsolete" vehicles returning, albeit briefly, to public service.
