Some of my old car pictures and stories.

I'm looking through my old pictures now and thinking I should share this as someone might find it interesting.

Pictures from 2014 where I lived in total for almost 1 month in a Volvo 740 I also took this on a long trip through Scandinavia to the North Cape. 

Here are the pictures from the trip that lasted 10 days and 5600km.

The first night in Sweden, I met my father before heading north alone.

 

Took the inland road through Sweden most of this road is like this to the north only interrupted by the few small towns and villages and the occasional house.

 

And occasionally I took off the main road and drove for miles on deserted gravel roads without seeing anyone or anything.

 

Passed the Arctic Circle south of the small town of Jokkmokk.

 

Lunch break somewhere in northern Sweden close to a river.

 

Then the border with Finland was crossed.

 

And then I was back in Norway.

 

Almost on the North Cape.

 

North Cape reached.

Nice! I’d love to make this (or a similar) trip in my Volvo.

Wasn't there some guy did a video on YouTube where he bought an old Rolls Royce and did it? I’m sure it was in the middle of winter when he went too, and he got there!

So after the North Cape, the trip continued south through Norway until I drove into Sweden again north of Narvik.

But first 2 last pictures from the North Cape that I forgot.

 

On the way south towards the city of Alta.

 

Accommodation south of Alta where I treated myself to a night at a camping site was placed in among the motorhomes where I attracted attention and became a neighbor with a nice older German who I talked to a lot.

 

Then on the way south through Norway.

 

Then back in Sweden again.

 

Last night in Sweden before driving into Norway again and then home.

 

 

Living conditions in the Volvo

Yes it was Harry's garage on youtube i can recommend it.

Absolutely stunning scenery too. Was it cold sleeping in the Volvo?

Also took a small trip through southern Norway earlier that year.

On that trip it was not cold it was in July. Earlier in the year it was frost when I slept in the car but with a good sleeping bag it goes just fine.

Easter that year I also had a little trip and explored some forest areas not far from home.

 

And I found a small car cemetery.

 

I also took care of my sister's dog these days who was a little skeptical of being taken into the woods by a strange man and spending the nights in a car.

During these times I also did a lot of fishing and exploring remote forest lakes.

Here is the first car I owned when I got my driver's license.

 

Before that I had a Tomos Flexer moped.

 

Do not have many pictures of cars I have owned but before the Volvo 740 I had this for a couple of years.

 

My dad's first Toyota Hiace van with 2.7 liter petrol engine.

Holiday trips with the first Hiace it drank almost 2 liters of gasoline per 10 km when towed caravan.

 

 

My dad's next Hiace van with 2.5 diesel engine and awd.

Unfortunately, it seems that many pictures have disappeared but possibly I can find someone I can scan. But come to think of it I would have really liked and others probably also if others had shared similar pictures and stories as I have done here. So it would have been an idea to change the name of the thread (do not know what) and then more people can share such here what do you think?

Yes it is great and having looked through these pictures I understand that I have to travel more again. I also miss the Volvo and selling it is probably the most idiotic thing I have done.

Nowhere near as adventurous, but here’s a few of my Scirocco as we made our way to Italy a few years ago.

I didn’t sleep in it because it’s a small car and I’m 6’2” and morbidly obese.

We went home over the Dolomites to Austria and Germany where we went so fast on the Autobahn that the paint peeled from the wheels.

I took the Lotus down to Sorrento for a wedding   years ago now.  That was a great trip.  2 weeks and nearly 5,000 miles done by the time I’d come back via Austria and Germany.

All seems so long ago now and unachievable in current times.

As you can see, the K series had issues in Germany after a land speed attempt.

Found 2 more pictures from a Suzuki Grand Vitara I owned I had some trips with this In Sweden with a cheap china roof tent. In Sweden and then especially to the north, there are miles of deserted gravel roads and forest roads and one can explore these for a lifetime and never cover everything. There were never any serious trips in the most desolate areas with this as I did not have a satellite phone and the car was tired so did not take the chance as much of it is real wilderness.
