It's not actually that quick either if those are 1/4 mile times.

9.8sec quarter mile, and that's with an endo partway down (brakes? botched gearchange?). Easily into the 8s on a good run. I vote quick 8)

Looks interesting, I'd hate to see the effects of a backfire with what looks to be injectors just before the intercooler (although they might be for water, I suppose).Recently joined Clubpolo, it's amazing just how puerile and immature some of the members are!

Yeah, I'm glad I'm now Pololess for the main part. It's typical of a one-model forum though, you've got the folk who are convinced Polos are the greatest car ever (they're not), folk who sell a car with "Offers" as the price and then get annoyed with real-world prices (what do you mean my rusty, dented, thrashed 1.4CL with a Ripspeed air filter and seatbelt pads isn't worth a grand?) and just endless txtspk and "I'm cooler than you" competitions. There are good people on there, don't get me wrong - I bought a bootlid from a chap and he was thoroughly pleasant, showed me around his G40 breadvan. But sadly he's a minority.

Not for 1000+ horsepower it ain't and the other run was 9.3 without the blipI can think of at least 3 local street legal cars that run those timesStill a wonderful engineering feat though

Yeah, but lets be honest. If any sort of VW polo pulled up to stage beside a pro-street camaro, and then snapped at its heals al lthe way down the 1/4 I'd be mightly impressed.

Anything sub-10sec is flipping quick, unless you commute in a funnycar.

Believe it or not that car is driven on the street quite a lot in the warmer months (to & from work!). It is even driven to & from Santa Pod/ Surrey. Not disputing the Polo is quick and a wonderful engineering job, just not that quick for a 1000+HP drag car and is it even street legal?

Wonder what that gets to the gallon.

tbh i wouldnt think it would be that bad, if he reduces boost to drive as a daily i'd of though 30's were achieveable being 1 so ruddy light and 2 1.9 16v(our old GTI Engineering 1.9 16v Mk2 Golf used to do 35 all day long)

It's probably a bit trickier to get over a thousand ponies out of a little VW four pot that it is from a 7.4 litre V8!

To be honest you can't really make a comparison. The Camaro is probably about 500kg heavier with 300hp more but being AWD the Polo has greater drive train power loss. I'd think the Camaro will launch harder than the Polo as it't better set up to do so and it's 60ft time will be much lower but judging by the terminal speed, that Polo must be pulling like buggery in the latter part of the quarter. I'd say that Polo is doing all right for what is is.
