Shitetrak 4x4.....nice....

Wellwellwell, having tried and failed to find winter tyres and or chains for the XM - (my tyre guy pissed himself laughing) apparantly there are none to be had at the moment and the online guys say they have them but - oh - an indeterminate wait. Chains - the same.... I decided to look for a shite 4x4 - having been talked out of a Cossack as too much of a nightmare on the road I have settled for a bad dream instead havig taken some advice from a farming mate of mine who uses Sportraks like most folk use socks - cheaper though not as tough as a fourtrak bit not as hairdresser as you may be led to believe. He believes they are much maligned and if you can get a cheap one then they are well worth it - so a quick look on the bay this morning and what did I find.£500 and ebay item: 180452263118 is now mine!now to get a haircut and find some mates to have a 'Zoolander' style Petrol Pump fight....can't wait - expect a post later this week telling all just how shite it is - but at £500 of your eenglish pounds and simple to boot I suspect it might be quite amusing. - being a 'convertible' as well means that in the summer I can put a stupid stereo and some wide boots on it and swap it 4 A SAXOGR8 4 SNOW DRIFTN

Nice one. I've driven one and while it's nowt special, it was also very definitely not unpleasant - a Suzuki Vitara is both a lot noiser and a lot less refined.

That's a bugger about the snow chains and tyres, I suppose a lot of people are going a bit mental buying them with this lingering cold spell.Sportrak sounds like a bit of a bargain though - I imagine they're tough enough, they have the same basic ingredients as a Fourtrak, just with a weedier engine.

tell me about it MC!anyway - I like the look of the ST - the weedier engine returns 47mpg if you drive in 2wd at 56mph!

Weirdly there was a version built by Bertone with an equally weedy 1.6 BMW engine.

I await your report with interest, though I have a suspicion that it will be mildly disappointing.

I reckon you've done alright there, obviously MOT time next month will let you know for sure.

Ps I love the way you wanted snow chains but ended up with a car instead, that's just the kind of lateral thinking Autoshite should be based on!

indeed and so poor do I believe it will be that when it actually works I will be mildy suprised - I expect to be dissapointed. Having said that - these Sporttraks - despite being the 'hairdresser' version of he hairy chested Fourtrack are still a hell of a lot harier than some of the 'sports' 4x4'swe shall see - as the only car that can move outside the house just now is the Volvo - the XM, moggy and golf are snow bound - anything that can get me home will be welcome!so I am on the train to London toorrow as I need to return to work - in the evening I will train it down to Soton and pick this beastie up - hopefully I will then not spend 4 hours waiting for the AA on the M25!

Does the Chocolate Labrador in the boot come with it?, Because that be the sale maker for me.I don't think I've ever driven a Sportrak but it looks much more manly than a Vitara so for that reason it must be a winner then!. :D

I had one, it was ok, but not daily driver material. Felt like driving one of those kids rides outside your local somerfields. Rocking back and forth as it lurched through the gears. Good engine though, but the gears are so short you'll be forever changing. I loved the tilt-o-meter thingy.
