1976 US Chevette Brochure

This was a bit of ebay red wine purchase but at 99c I was actually pretty pleased when it arrived. 1976 was allegedly the first year these were sold in the US and I actually don’t remember seeing one of these here in proper ‘MK1’ form although the later ones still lurk about. The lines do remind me of the UK ones so this may be of interest here. If any Chevette fan here would like the original, please PM me an address and I’ll mail it, media mail to the UK is pretty cheap and this’ll only gather dust here.

Nice one! I like how they made one of the trim specs more sporty by painting the sills black.

"Simply put, 'we' built this car for Europeans, and then added horrific trim specs to suit American tastes.'I like the sprung bumpers though! I'd love a Woody!

Strange how they used european spec rear lights... wouldn't have thought they wouuld have been legal in the US?

Well I'd love it if it's still available....got a little collection going of 70's & early 80's Vauxhall brochures. The UK got 'all model' brochures that are really cool.

The Scooter is the Pov-spec to end all Pov-specs. It didn't even get a back seat...I was looking for one for last years BABE rally but didn't find one. Ended up in a firebird...

They're sealed beam units, so fine for the US.Are the US Chevettes actually related to our Chevette/Kadett? They do look similar, but the proportions are a bit off.

Hey thats well interesting, nice work Ford Pop.I do think these have a fair bit in common with the european chevette, I think the main structure is the same. They did come up with a 4-dr hatch though later on. Front suspension looks identical. And is the dashboard the same as an Opel Kadett? Its diffferent from a chuv.Love this feature:

easily accessible instrument panel for serviceability

GR16 4 CLOCKIN!!!

Retrogeezer, It's still here - let me have an address either in here or by PM and I'll put it in the post.

Am I reading it right on the page with interior pictures.... the 'Scooter' model saves a few bucks by ditching the back seat?I just love the desperate tones they had to use to promote the thing, how "not being compatible with any of your existing spanners" and "people will rear-end you wondering what amber lights mean" are twisted around into benefits.

Yep, it got absolutely nothing in the way of kit. They had lino instead of carpets too.

Then there was the Chevette Scooter. As if the regular Chevette wasn't spartan enough, GM decided to take off all of the exterior trim, cheaply paint the bumpers, limit colors and equipment, remove the glove box door, use unbelievably flat interior door trim, install vinyl flooring and vinyl hatch floor covers, and remove any plastic chrome from the dash. Mechanically the Scooter was identical with other Chevettes, but many options were not available. In 1976, the first year, a back seat was optional.
