dome Posted September 1, 2022 Posted September 1, 2022 Just caught up on this thread after far too long. Great to see our own version of Vice Grip Garage going well. Carry on! CGSB and PhilA 2
PhilA Posted September 1, 2022 Author Posted September 1, 2022 Checked to see that I had reassembled the engine correctly. Seems ok. Fumbler, Tickman, djim and 10 others 13

PhilA Posted September 4, 2022 Author Posted September 4, 2022 Tried putting the manifolds on. Correct engine, wrong car. There's no way in hell they fit. The suspension and steering is in the way. Need to regroup on that one. dome 1
PhilA Posted September 4, 2022 Author Posted September 4, 2022 Someone considered this adequately installed. It's the torque reaction tube that prevents the chassis from twisting under the load from the suspension. It was done up loosely with two of the ten bolts required. Took it out, it was bent so was beaten back into shape with hammers. It's back in but I need to get the other 8 bolts. Hopefully I can put the weight of the car down onto it and force the torque arms up, and back into line so I can put the bolts back in. Someone considered that safe to drive on. Think about that for a minute. CGSB, Dyslexic Viking, danthecapriman and 6 others 9
PhilA Posted September 6, 2022 Author Posted September 6, 2022 All done up with new bolts. Dick Cheeseburger, RayMK, groovylee and 13 others 16
PhilA Posted September 7, 2022 Author Posted September 7, 2022 Cleaned the chrome up a touch. That's sitting like it should, now. Looks like any Fitzpatrick illustration, and that makes me happy. So, so, so much more to do but five minutes here and there are knocking small items off the list. I have purchased a couple replacement trim pieces for where the rear of the roof meets the body. Those should be here by the end of the week hopefully. danthecapriman, CGSB, CaptainBoom and 17 others 20
PhilA Posted September 7, 2022 Author Posted September 7, 2022 These got here quickly! A new pair of sail panel trims. RayMK, Dyslexic Viking, CGSB and 2 others 5
PhilA Posted September 8, 2022 Author Posted September 8, 2022 Slightly more dull but definitely a necessity; The engine and gearbox are now secured into the vehicle with appropriate fixings. Noel Tidybeard, BlankFrank, Fumbler and 13 others 15 1

PhilA Posted September 13, 2022 Author Posted September 13, 2022 Decided to repair one of life's little mysteries. Why? Not entirely sure. Not tidy but it's strong. Nobody's gonna see it anyway. Phil mercedade, adw1977, Dyslexic Viking and 7 others 10
hairnet Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 got flashbacks of folsom today already annoyed due to issues more so now
PhilA Posted September 14, 2022 Author Posted September 14, 2022 I wanted to go at the weekend and wasn't able to. So eh. Another time.
PhilA Posted September 15, 2022 Author Posted September 15, 2022 Cleared everything out of the trunk. Straightened the braces up and gave a lot of pensive looks at it all. Stuck the repair panel in. The dimples don't line up. Gonna have to work something out there. The Moog, danthecapriman, groovylee and 5 others 8
PhilA Posted October 4, 2022 Author Posted October 4, 2022 Not much Plymouth news. Accumulated a box of trim. Came up available for significantly less than anything on eBay so it was snaffled up. Just need the side straight pieces (hard to find) and the bit that goes along the leading edge of the bonnet. Trouble is, it appears in general people would park these cars using the French Method. Crunch, that's far enough LightBulbFun, JMotor, rainagain and 3 others 6
PhilA Posted October 13, 2022 Author Posted October 13, 2022 Re-kindling some progress on this car. Looking at photos for inspiration, found a couple. I do like the green- green and black look good. However, the dark red is being agreed upon as a good alternative to the purple. I cannot get a cheap purple paint that's dark enough. The wheels and stance of this green one. With a dark maroon on the outside. Black interior. Thoughts? CGSB, djim, danthecapriman and 4 others 7
PhilA Posted October 13, 2022 Author Posted October 13, 2022 Oh, and I already went to Walmart and had a nose at their paint. I did end up buying some paint to test with. Hunter green and Cranberry. Rust Collector and Dyslexic Viking 2
