Firstly i would like to say a big HELLO :)Havn't been on here for a wee-while and its going to take quite a good few hours to catch up. Hope everyone has had a great christmas and has a fantastic new year !Secondly,I'm after a car with a small engine (1.0-1.3) - somethin really cheap to insure as i'm only 18.I have a budget of £350 could stretch to about £400 / £480, and can travel aroud 50 or 60 miles from Birkenhead maximum.Ebay pulls up lots of 1.8's and 2.0 litres or nice cars just too farPretty much the same with Loot and Autotrader. So i ask upon the autoshite community for help. Thanks for lookingMany more thanks for any replies or helpMark

Can't suggest anything specific - at that sort of budget you'll need to keep a reasonably open mind about what you want anyway. Try having a look in local papers / newsagents window / supermarket noticeboards etc. Can't really imagine AT will turn up much although you could get lucky on eBay.

get onto autotrader - lots in your budget at the moment - one especially caught my eye a 1981 automatic 1300cc Honda civic 3 door in what looks like very good nick - tempted myself at £299. Try and travel a bit further then you get south wales and the midlands - plenty of KIT round those parts of the workd

In a couple of months when I have the cash.... Ill be in need of something like this, but I have been tempted to just save cars I couldnt use.Ebay auctions do throw up suprises sometimes, as we have seen recently, be sure to keep your eye on things.

I've typed in the postcode for Birkenhead and found these little beauts.

The owner of this sounds like a bit of a numpty, "I don't know what 16v means" but it could be a safe bet for £450?.

Or you could be daft and get this Audi 100 2.0 Turbo Diesel for £395.

Any chance of a link for the Toyota?

Pandas are insurance group 1, and Sambas are 2. Those are my choices.

I tried a sample quote on that 'comparethemeerkat' site, which is usually very cheap for me, for an 18 year old living in the Wirral, just passed his test, insuring a 999cc Fiat Panda. I just realised I captured the screen featuring the TP quotes, but fully comp with a hefty excess is no cheaper.

Didn't realise you were that near by. I'll keep 'em peeled and give you a shout if something turns up.

That's extortionate! No wonder we have so many uninsured drivers, I almost don't blame them

What about your Corsa Cavette? Are you selling that soon?

Posted

Nasty quotes there Milf! My mate (who was 20 at the time) paid a shade over a grand to insure a Corsa 1.0 Envoy. I figured if I was going to be bummed on the price I might as well get something with a sodding turbo. Worked out nice in the end!

Unfortunatly, living somewhere as MEGA SHIT as TEH WIRRALZ* is going to see you bumraped on insurance. I do not like to stay there more than a couple of hours when I am being paid, so WTF it is like to live in that armpit of the UK is beyond me. Make like a tree and get outta there ;)* Notes on teh wirralz: we did 1 night in a TravelTavern type establishment up there and were recommended by the management that we removed EVERYTHING from our vehicles in their car park overnight. Even the relative hostility of 'mainland' Liverpool is betterer than Birkin-frickin-head. I was supposed to go there tonight but thank fuck was postponed at the last minute. I H8 IT.

Bloody hell, those were expensive quotes there.Ive never had one like that, but then again I live in an apparently nice place.....

I am not surprised. We have had shifts on the wirral knocked because of "security" issues. Basically you turn up at a designated access point to find some FUCKFACE has parked their car across the gate, if they won't shift it the safety guys who stop us getting cooked by 650v DC or smacked by a train will just go home: No secure compound to put your vans in, no work. A real pisser if you have just driven 3 hours to get there.

RG29 is B, I would have thought so, its pretty safe round here but then again due to all the posh cars about, it must be attractive to some criminals. And I presume Hook has a bit to do with that......

We live in a CATEGORY A area, so that is goooood shit. When we live in the rural bit, there was a fair bit of TWOCing went on in our road, presumably as it was the first bit of civilisation you came to off the A1 (hence why my Astra got pinched, with a P-EX left in it's place), but since we moved into the slightly less rural bit of the postcode area there is nay bother. We have been here 5 years and there's never been vehicle crime nearby that I can think of (barring the antics of Wuvvum's m8's "teh_landrover_center" using a stolen truck to do recoveries then smashing up the jailhouse like they were in the wild west, but then they are a bunch of thick peasants...)
