Oh yeah, my brother got my dad that worst cars ever book- a hugely entertaining and interesting read. And, to be fair, the writer does say it's only his opinion, and adds how much he actually loves most of the cars! It includes the Ford Consul Classic, and the Rover 800, both of which my brother actually ownes, which raised a smile.

I received the book on Cars of The Soviet Union and spent all Christmas Day reading it-GREAT! Unfortunately my saw this as somewhat anti-social!Excellent book though!

It's EPIC, isn't it? Not had a chance to read it properly yet.....

I WANT that book so much, its my birthday in March so ill ask for it then.

Some money (my family are an imaginative lot). Some food -which I ate. Various other bits and pieces which I shall use once, ignore and then take to the tip. Finally I actually got what I wanted this year. Hirst, Milford Cubicle, Father Ted and the rest can all go and cry in the corner out of jealousy as I received a genuine "Shite Lifestyle TM" present. It is made in Essex, thus ethically sound, is made of dead animal thus pisses off the vegitarians and is useful.I'm talking about a 100% natural sheepskin rug. Which is made from the skin of a rare breed grey sheep - the rest of said animal was enjoyed with roast potatoes by somebody else. I was quite happy with that gift.

I got a brill t shirt with the front of a Triumph vitesse complete with my inititals & 63 on the number plate, Gavin & Stacey dvd set, aftershave and a lovely picture drawn by my princess for her Daddy which is mega.My eldest lad and wifey pooled together and gave me £400 to put towards getting my first project car to play with in the garage as I keep saying I want a vitesse every Christmas & birthday....Unbeknown to me they actually purchased one off the bay a month ago and drove 250 miles away to tow it back but it was not in the towable condition the over enthusiastic seller said it was in...This story actually made me cry..they went to so much effort for me.. I don't deserve it.. I will add to the funds as & when I can and hopefully get a herald/vitesse or spitfire convertible I have always wanted sometime in the future. I have cleared the garage and treated myself to a new set of spanners.I also got a book & cd to help me sleep cos I have problems with that!!!£25 quid of mother in law and a £10 hmv voucher from sis in law so all in all a pritty memorable Christmas.

Just got a 1/24 scale Trabant model kit from me folks......chuffed :D

You will have to change your signature to wifey said yes then!.That's a brill present as that means it's a green light to buying one now!.My wife set up a high rate interest account a few years ago and just kept adding £25 a month direct debit into it to go towards my 30th, but once it hit £1500 she allowed me go out and buy my 02, It a good way to save money for a project though.

A well-meaning relative got me the Big Book of Top Gear - which is as you would expect it to be - thankfully, my brother redressed the motoring-based balance with this fantastic Duke DVD:

It is truly excellent. Oh, and James May's "Car Fever" collection of columns which is very good reading so far.

Happy Chrimbo, some quality stuff seen so for!

I got a Graphics Tablet for the computer (after dropping enough hints recently)

Set up in in action here - note also the box of Roses on the left (3/4 consumed already)

For shite points, my mate got me the new note book sitting below the lava lamp

It's covered in pics of Eastern bloc piss like Trabbys, Skodas, Wartburgs and Ladas and I really like it!

Been years since I've had these and they are not as good as they used to be (general shiter philosophy there)

But the ultimate thing for me was this surprise gift from my Ex girlfriend (yes EX) - it's a book of Dan Dare cutaways of all the various mechanical wonders of the 'MODERN' world including Concorde, Ships, railway stations, loads of vehicles (some I've never seen before). I have seen many of these cut aways before but never all together.

I really dig 'pre-digital age' cutaways before these days of Solid modelling CAD etc. I do my own cut aways but never quite got to the level of skill of some of these drawings:

Scores faux-shite points because the annual looks like it's from 1970 or something with stains on the page corners and worn away ink stamps but it's all for show - still looks the biz tho

I have that cutaway book too- superb stuff!! But, if you want to see some truly astonishing cutaway drawings, seek out some of the aircraft ones published in Flight International.

Agreed! I'm a bit of an aviation buff as well and I know the ones you mean!I seem to recall the Vulcan bomber was a particularly good one!

I've got a collection of them from the early 70's until the early 90's, they are brilliant as are Eric Browns articles 8)

We had those in work, but they're not as good as those 'classic' ones from that book up there! Is that and actual old book or just made to look period? Also, that Soviet Union book is ace, it's in the local Borders (which is now shutting down) and might have to get it.

Ditto+1Skin/fur is a by-product of the meat industry and lasts for a very long time, hence much more justified.

Is that and actual old book or just made to look period?

- it's just made to look period but the art work itself comes from the 'Eagle' comic of the 50s-60s - just reproduced for today's 'Retro' style assholes of which I count myself a member :D

Just to counteract, I eat meat and I'm WELL ANGRY!

I got nowt worth typing out, but I bought my lad his first Scalextric and I have been on it more than him. The track fits together a bit easier than when I were a lad, and the cars have got powerful magnets in them so they don't spin off as easily as I remember. Still good fun though. Regret giving away a huge box of track and cars a good few years back now.

Can you still get a nice leccy shock off the track?

I got a new lens for my camera. It's amazing how close you can stand to the subject. I was comfortably able to take this picture of the C5's bent wheel when there was only about 2' between the car and the wall.

I got a Scalextric when i was a kid and got a huge shock just before Christmas dinner  My dad took it back to the shop and they exchanged it for a Minic Motorway and I was well pleased.

I haven't eaten meat since 1997, purely because I've never liked it.My boss said I should eat fish, because 'it's in the bible'.

I got this and have spent most of today working on my new (to me) Astra Mk1's wheel arches and floor.

I also got this. Bit miffed that I never even knew about the book despite having had a share in a Cessna 150 based there from 1994 - 1998!

Slaighty, take the magnets out of the cars and put flour on the track. Its a bit messy but you'll have hours of drifty fun with authentic skid marks :D

Don't want to wreck the cars any more than my lads have already. Day 3 and both cars are minus spoilers, door mirrors, rad grilles.
