Arghh! Seeing the dealer sticker reminds me of the radio ad’s they had back in the 80s – “John Grose, Ipswich, for Ford. Princes Street, Ipswich, for Ford.â€ÂThey’ve gone from there now anyway. Got to agree with Pog, looks horrible. Spend another hundred or two and buy something good, even if it’s a few years older.

trying to get something for the missus, but shes too picky!

My wife struggles to see the attraction of driving about in an old pile of cack too (Although she does enjoy driving the R9)....I get around this by giving her the "GOOD" car to use....Then I'm free to wallow in the Shite! :D

Escort looks DIRE by the way! :(

I agree, it looks terrible, I'm just running out of ideas. Audi coupe looks good, but I am suspicious of its low price + it needs 4 tyres , could get pricey.

Keep looking and try not to lose heart....My R11 cost £200 and it's a great little car that I'd be happy to let my wife use....If I didn't want to keep it all for myself! :D

Its a gamble buying a early mk5 escrot. Really is. Ford cleaned up their act after the this model, but this has to be one of the worst Fords evah. If your missus wants something cheap and cheerful for the money have a gander at similarly aged Rover 200/400's, Citroen ZX's or Renault 19's. Anything but this for the love of god.

I had one of the '95 facelift Escorts and it was a dreadful car. I'd been driving shite for 15 years when I got it and it broke down in several ways that were new to me. Contrary to conventional wisdom I think the pre-'95 models were far better.I'd give another vote for the R19 or ZX. You might even get an early Megane or Xsara. You get a lot more for your money on something like that. Rover 200/400 is OK too but it's I thought you said your Mrs needed an auto, that Escort is manual.
