Show me ya shite!

Your 300SE reminds me of the events of the 1st of August 1989, one of the directors takes delivery of a blue 300SE G64 PFC. He was pretty smug that he'd managed to get an S Class when his fellow directors had XJ40s and high spec W124s and e34s. The lack of allys and leather he could live with, but no one had told him he wasn't getting aircon! The transport manager almost lost his job, in the end we had an aftermarket setup fitted- cost about £2000 and came out of the transport departments budget!

That must've been a terrible blow to his ego in the office! Oddly mine has an electricaly adjustable steering column, perhaps it was standard. I assume the sunroof and headlamp wipers were.

The late mother in laws AX is in the corner of the drive still acting as a smoking room for my dad after i got offered £50 for his dead Aixam.

My trusty Focus that i've had for 8 years shown here being towed when the pats system wouldn't recognise the key.

It turned out the loom to the ecu (that lives below the n/s headlamp and behind the bumper) had rotted and the copper wire within it had gone green and not very conductive.

An unloved Seicento sporting that can't keep it's coolant in it's radiator has been sort of abandoned / gifted to me from my son.

The L200 is a good old girl with the worst steering lock ever but i wouldn't be without it.

The wifes samba green Honda CRX is a recent addition to the crowded driveway and is used everyday, being a Honda it's a bit dull but 100% dependable and for under £700 a quirky bargain.

Finally my favourite one the little Subaru MV284 pick up.

I have owned this for four years nearly and spent way too much on it but it's a happy little truck and when you're out in it men of a certain age often come up and say they had a Tamiya one as a kid.

Here it is with some friends at the Jap performance gathering at Stoneleigh Park earlier.

285 mile round trip on its tired engine (another job to do) and as always it didn't miss a beat.

Forgot about the 2004 Accord executive estate (easily done) thats still around but being used by the father in law 'cos its easier than his Corolla to get in and out of while he waits for his new hip op.

I don't think mine have changed since I last posted here but they've had a lot done to them, especially the Capri!

The Granny.

The Tranny.

The Capri, as it was...

And the Capri as it is now!

And finally the Mercury.

That Mercury is amazing, solid platinum 100% bonafide 1970s American Land Yacht, before they went all consciencious.

I really need to get a pic of it next to Eddy's Cadillac. Two huge land yachts together. It would also be almost 15 litres of V8 loveliness in just two cars!

I don't really need to post pictures, just imagine a modern panda, then 6 old pandas, a Y10 GTIE under a grey cover and another panda in the garage.

Oh and a Uno.

4 of the pandas have names, Henry, Cecil, Charlie and Fizzle.  I may call the lastest acquisition Gasket.  Fizzle is being slowly dismantled, I just need to get my hands on a engine hoist to finish the job.

Have sleepy dog pictures instead:

These 2 honeys have been resting between engagements for some time, but the Rov is returning to commuting duties next month so I've invested* £91 in a thermostat kit (leaking), strut top bearings (comedy tyre wear), and service items.  I'm still getting over a broken arm which has been extremely frustrating (can't drive nor do any tinkering), so I've been having a sit in this occasionally, enjoying the big soft seats and general pleasantness.

They're certainly more popular on here than I reallised, very capable, underrated things that seem to last well. Have another pic of my early tourer receiving some TLC...post-4673-0-58396700-1471898348_thumb.jpg

The working members of the fleet:

post-20075-0-50025400-1471917879_thumb.jpg

First up, the BX TZD Turbo. I genuinely can never see myself selling this, it's practical, immensely comfortable, wafts like a luxury barge, sips fuel and yet it's bloody good laugh too. GR9 for annoying Audi TDi drivers on back roads.

post-20075-0-76052100-1471917913_thumb.jpg

Then there's the Daihatsu Sirion. Suffers from a typically Japanese suspension setup (i.e. over-sprung and under-damped) and the seats are shit, but it's so much fun. The Daihatsu E-series definitely deserves a place amongst any list of great affordable engines, and the BMC transmission-in-sump replica gearbox whine is a nice touch.

The non-working member of the fleet:

And so to this constant source of misery, pain and financial hardship. The SD1 was the first car I had after passing my test and I've had it now for nearly five years. In that time I've spent considerably more than it's worth on what has turned into a full restoration job, whilst it's repaid me by revealing a load more work to do each time it's been returned to the road. Luckily I'm running out of things to replace or rebuild so hopefully once this latest tranche of work is completed that should be it.

Here's how it looks at the moment.

Here's most (but not all) of them

miniMetro - owned for eight years now, but used sparingly. Next year I'm going to get the Hydragas cans recharged with nitrogen, which should transform the ride as it's been getting more bouncy. Here it is next to Angrydicky's Maestro.

post-5013-0-62284700-1471936292_thumb.jpg

Cavalier - owned for 16 months and is our main car. Mrs T uses it and thinks it's great, which it is. She previously only drove BL/ARG tat, having owned a string of Metros, but is now a griffin convert.

post-5013-0-90284500-1471936603_thumb.jpg

Senator - bought from JohnK a few months back and it's brilliant, I've really taken to this car now having done lots of long trips. Just need to get the heater matrix fixed before summer ends, plus 2 new tyres so it'll have a matching set of Vredesteins. I'd happily drive it anywhere, and might do so it October when a trip to Geneva to visit family is on the cards.

Peugeot 405 - recent purchase and for sale. Is a good car but having two pez autos already means I don't really need this one!

post-5013-0-27138800-1471936914_thumb.jpg

Rover 416GTi - I bought this a few years back and ran it for a year then gave it to my Dad. I never really got on with it due to the Honda engine, much prefer Rover engined R8s personally, but he loves it and Mum having a dodgy back likes the comfy seats and soft suspension. Their other car is a Corsa C, so the R8 must seem like driving a Rolls in comparison! He's just spent £400 getting it through the MoT, which is worth it I'd say. Best pic I've got of this.

^ great fleet Rob, I'd forgotten you still had that 416gti. Taking the senator over to Geneva- just what I imagine in the Senator launch brochure, well that and an action shot of hunting down crims on the M1!

When Dad told me the 416 needed work I tried to palm the 405 on to him, but he was having none of it.  76 and driving a Rover, he's true giffer material!

Couple of late arrivals.

Little Rover. Shite money at least! Very rare to get a 25 in monogram paint. So this is probably a one off from the factory.

Picking up this 416gsi next week. Been sat for 2 years but very high spec! Cost £16000 in 91.

Mk1 VIP Charlie one of two in the UK!

He's very shy and too good not to be garaged, if I'd organized myself I would have had him our and MOT'd.
