cant imagine its all that hard to maintain, it literally goes back to the bulletin board days (hence the name Bulletin Board Code)

 

 

First up - this isn't a rant at the folks keeping things running here, it's far more aimed at the actual software provider!  I've nothing but praise for everyone involved in actually running this place.  I realised this sounded like I was having a go at you guys so wanted to add a preface to clarify I'm absolutely not.

Absolutely this.  The lack of proper BBCode support on here since the last major update has been a major pain in the tail.

My blog is something which is run through a few different platforms, with specific responses tailored to address comments and questions on each respective location.  The thread on here I tend to treat as the "master copy" as this is by far the busiest forum I'm on and where I get by far the most responses.

The fact that you can't properly use BBCode here however means that there's a huge chunk of duplication of work needed to generate the post in a format which will work in *every one* of the other five forums involved.  Even copying text out often as not things like paragraph spacing goes screwy and random double spaces tend to appear in text - but not always.

It's further frustrated by how clunky image embedding is on mobile and the lovely but which randomly erases what you're three quarters of the way through writing.  Hopefully that one's gone with this update.

I really can't understand why a provider of bulletin board software would decide to stop supporting one of the formatting standards out of the blue like that.
