No idea why it wouldn't start but after nearly draining the battery the alternator would be under a lot of load when the car does start, in order to recharge the battery, I'd probably check the belt tension too.

It's hard to say looking on a phone but that respray looks good for the price, result!

That looks brilliant!

FWIW, the fanbelt has twice snapped - first time when the original went on the A47, the AA came and fitted a 'get you home' jobby, which I forgot about and it went again a few years later. It has also has a 2nd hand alternator a few years ago. I think there might even be a spare belt in the space where the jack lives.  Battery was always disconnected when not in use and was good after even 6 months. It's a few years old now, mind, I got a new one when I bought it in 2006ish. Dunno why I'm telling you this, maybe it helps.

Loving the updates :)

I'm presuming it's from when it was resparayed. They would have had it in and out the shop, moving it around etc. It's been fine all yesterday and today since I charged the battery. 20+ starts.

In fact, your car is better prepared for track than mine is now !

Excellent. I'll book it now. It's my sons birthday on the 30th. Is he allowed to be a passenger?

Not sure on age restriction for passengers, might be worth calling them

This little fucker very nearly let me down earlier. We were at Tynemouth market in it and after an hour browsing we came out and it wouldn't start.
It was spinning over but wouldn't catch. It did seem to be spinning slightly slower than usual although it cranked for more than long enough. We packed our bags and were about to leave it and walk home when I gave it one last chance. It fired first click. The fan belt was squaling and it hasn't done it before or since. Could it be related? The only thing I left on while we were away was the heated rear windscreen. Surely this would isolate with ignition off?
The last time this happened it turned out to be the crank sensor on the side of the engine iirc. It usually wouldn't start when hot. This was on the 306 cab that I sold to@Eddie Honda.
Anyway, I'll condition the battery overnight and see what happens.
Must be the smallest battery I've seen. Is it correct for the car? Anyone any other ideas?fc64ce725de0b090670158f7e0e166ca.jpg

I see you answered your own question, but was about to say your battery looks the same size as our MR2 battery, i.e. tiny. Great charger by the way - I bought one following recommendations on here and ended up sourcing one for the parents too.

Agreed on the charger. It revived our knackered saab diesel battery.

Which is now surplus if anyone needs it.

I bought a job lot, the silver and black one is decent, size xl but fits me and my head is decidedly normal (I think)

The other two are huge on me so probably no use for him

This one might be more suitable for the lad, I bought it for my nephew but he can't come on monday, size is S

Same here. It'll be my first in my own car. I've done a couple of those driving days but always had a bloke in with me.

Wish I had something to attend in but I don’t think the Volvo will be up for it haha.
