If it wasn't for the stupid ANPR I would be photoshopping that right now! :D

No advisories eh? Show off. Garage proprietor: "I know what'll make my signature look really cool - I'll sign it with one of those tippex pens!"

Good job! Did it need anything? No advisories either... though my car passed its MOT with no advisories, I fear it's because the tester couldn't be bothered to write up a list.

When we took over an old showroom at work a few months back I found a load of blank certificates. A tester told me they are worthless now with everything being computerised  It's not that long since garages got broken into and had the book of blank certificates stolen...

Ahhh! The good old days. I used to be able to get easy MOT tests via my ex girlfriends lesbian and bi-sexual motor traders underground network.... But I think I will leave that story for another thread!

Yes it's true! If you knew what I did you would never look at Swarfega the same way again!

Congrats! Must keep those Rovers on the road as long as possible. They're important historical artifacts now!

I thought it was the granules that gave that extra "tingle"

Pictures or gtfo  mattblack: nice on one the pass, kind of hoping the MOT fairy will be looking down on me with favour if I ever get the Merc to the garage.

Good result! The 405 got another MOT (it's 14th...) a couple of weeks back, after changing a steering rack gaiter and a balljoint. It's a good feeling indeed - especially when the (tough) MOT tester told me that, subject to "small stuff" like CV boots etc, the only thing I have to worry about is the engine blowing up as the underside is rock solid.Never had an MOT from there without an advisory though. On the current one were front pads/discs wearing thin (changed last weekend, so no worries there), "oil leak" (which I suspect is residue on the lower block not cleaned off from when the rocker cover gasket went), "windscreen chipped" and deteriorating CV boots.

It is a great feeling when you get a pass isn't it? I stuck the Laurel in for one not long ago, it went straight through without any prep work being done, and not one advisory.Looking at the old certificates, it'd probably done more miles between the 2008 and 2009 MoT's than it'd done in the last 10-15 years!

My favourite MOT advisory is 'headlamps dirty but not affecting beam pattern'

There's a big kerfuffle in the Peter Simpson column in this month's Car Mechanics, as the DVLA want to introduce an advisory for engine undertrays - they can't be removed by the tester so they have to advise the fact. Basically any car with plastic shields underneath (so everything made in the last 10 years I suspect) will get this as an advisory. I still can't see this as being a big deal, but there you are.

What are they advising, that they don't know the condition of the bits the undertray is hiding?I've a feeling it was Simpson who got the bonnet catch loophole closed. The MOT tester used to have to assume the underbonnet items were OK if the bonnet couldn't be opened. I believe the car fails now if the bonnet doesn't open.

I took the Volvosaurus in to Tiff X1/9's former employer today. It was tested by Good Old Jim (so called because his name is Jim and he's a good old guy), which was a nice surprise because I thought he'd retired. One of the younger testers advised him to take it outside and give it a good rev before doing the smoke test. He did so, but it was still making big black clouds when he came back in. Despite this it got a comfortable pass, all three tests around the 2.2 mark. I wonder if vegetable oil smoke is invisible to the smoke test machines. All it failed on was the windscreen, which I knew about anyway. There's a new one coming on Wednesday. Good old Jim. :D
