Pete-M Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I've just remembered where there's a Tomos moped that might just be for sale. Would any of you pervs be interested in the ultimate autoshite if I can find out more?

Father Ted Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Fucking hell - aye, if it runs and is attractivly priced - yeah.My first bike eVah was an A3 Disco.
Rusty Pelican Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Ye gods I had a red one of these things , OK for a year then as the miles clocked on it got slower and closer untill it wouldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding , no amount of setting fire to the exhaust as a decoke job helped either , class shite
Richard Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 My mate's dad had one of those. I can remember sailing passing him going uphill on my pushbike. I always used to try to race mopeds on my bike and normally it took a bit of effort but not the Tomos.
IanF Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Worst card in Motorbike Top Trumps. You just had to hand it over
hotford00 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 That rang a bell, for anyone on here that actually worked for Roadline. They had a contract with someone to deliver these " Fine" pieces of motorised push bikes, don't think I've ever seen one since.
wuvvum Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I briefly owned one of these beasties about ten years ago - it was pathetically slow and vibrated so much my arse would be numb after about two miles. It was embarrassing being beaten away from the lights by kids on pushbikes, although given a long enough straight the Tomos would eventually overhaul them. I remember one time the B reg Mini Mayfair I was running at the time broke down on the A140 about five miles north of Norwich, and I went out there later that day on the Tomos to try and fix it. There was a stiff headwind, and with throttle wound right open the (surprisingly accurate) speedo was showing 18mph. Not great on a 60mph single carriageway A road... The other oddity with it was that the logbook said it was a Volvo. Everything else was the same - silver, 49cc, taxation class bicycle - but obviously someone at DVLA had clicked on the wrong make in the drop down list at some stage.
maximalist Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Replace the crappy standard exhaust with a tuned one and you can hit 60-65 kms/h. I did with my Tomos. Leaky trannys provide automatic chain lubrication also.

AXrescuer Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Ah Tomos. My bro bought one of those out of my mate's mum's mail order catalogue. It ended up being squashed under his Talbot Express van after he reversed without looking where he was going!
Father Ted Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I never had a problem with my Tomos being slow, and I was about 16 stone when i owned it - only Euxton lane hill caused it to slow. I had to replace the chain & sprocket as the originals were terminally worn, I couldn't get Tomos ones so I managed to get some from a Honda to fit and it ran fine. Seemed to run on fresh air too. Lack of any form of locking mechanism made BFO padlock and chain essential!
STUNO Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Tomo = Maori language = bloody big hole in the groundTomos = More than 1 of them
