The Austin A60 Cambridge Automatic

In  1979 my Dad bought a Cambridge in this colour scheme as his long distance high speed  car , he was working away in London during the week and found his Series 1 Land Rover a bit slow on the M4 coming home to mid-Wales on a Friday night.

To me and my brothers it really was luxury , having actual seats , for a start.  But being my Dad he abused it by loading the big boot with rubble when renovating a house and snapped a rear Spring, he got a pair from a scrappy but only changed one.

Luckily when the other side broke on the way to Birmingham on Christmas Eve, in the snow , halfway across the Tregaron to Abergwesyn mountain pass, the spare Spring was in the boot, so he changed it at the side of the road using the light from a small fire that us kids had to keep going.

He sold it to a banger racer when the MOT ran out for £20 and moaned like fuck about the £10 he'd lost in nearly a years ownership.

Wonder why I'm a shiter?

Not sure if it's 110% accurate, but I recall a story going round way back that said if they were hit hard up the backside the sides used to fall off. Hence the expression "You won't get Far in a Farina!"

Are you sure you're not related to Skizzer?

I had a chuckle at Grampian Grey.

They got that spot-on.

I love these old Farina’s, an uncle had an A60 Oxford in the 70’s and I loved riding in the car listening to the charismatic chatter of the engine and whine from the gearbox while sat on the comfy leather seats, it seemed so old fashioned even back then compared to my dads mk1 Cavalier.

Fond memories of the two Farinas in my past. (Riley and MG)

I used to keep my toolbox in that big empty space between the radiator and the grille. So much space in there for more engine, always fancied a go in a six cylinder Farina. Cruising the ads for one now.........
