Steve79 fleet - Ovlov Goodness

Volvo has continued to provide sterling service. So much so, that its semi permanently my new work van as i've not fixed the airon on my van yet.

I've done about 2.5k in it so far and its averaging about 53mpg which is outstanding.

The one thing that had been driving me crazy was the aircon. When the engine was cold it would work fine but when hot it would refuse to function or only intermittently.

I'd already ruled out the cabin sensor although i had to remove. a massive clog of fluff from it.

I scanned the climate with my ds150e and it came back with cabin evap sensor, sun sensor and air quality sensor all stuck at "too high a signal - permanent"

Clearing all the code only resulted in the air quality one coming back and thats related to the recirculation function and doesnt affect the aircon.

These suffer with air gap issues on the compressor pulley which, over time, the magnets loose their magnetism so wont engage the clutch when hot. There are a few universally accepted bodges that can be used to get the aircon working again:

1. Remove the compressor pulley and remove the largest shim which will reduce the gap

2. Inset cable ties between the pulley and clutch to reduce the gap.

I opted for secret option 3

2ml thick fencing strap. Insert a thin edge flat head screwdriver between the pulley and clutch, twist until there sufficient enough gap to push a 3cm cutoff between the two and fold over, making sure the position is identical each time. The pulley still has to be able to freewheel otherwise the compressor will seize.

This was done 2wks ago and the aircon has functioned perfectly since with no instance of cutting out.

Time Taken =1hr

Swearing = Lots

Satisfaction = 115% (would do again)
