Ford Ka(ck): New Chod

In exchange for less than a week's wages, this arrived this morning. '06-plated Ka 'Collection' (which is nowt more than a Ka2) with just over 80k in the hands of two owners under its' wheels. It's the later Rocam 1.3 8v OHC 'powered' (in as much as 70bhp can ever be) version, which means that forward progress is unaccompanied by the sound of a bag of spanners dropping down a stairwell like you got from the old Endura-E lump.

It actually goes pretty well, with the sparkling handling these little beasts were always renowned for very much intact. Although I haven't driven it in the wet yet, and the previous owner hasn't long had a set of four new tyres of dubious Chinese origin (think BF Goodrich Fuck-All Terrains) fitted to it. That should be entertaining.

A year's MOT came with it, and although there are a few scabs around the body and the fuel filler is a bit crusty around the edges, there's been (deep breath) NO welding whatsoever underneath. And neither does it need any. Not many Kas can boast that!

Needs a boot lock, a valet and a new stereo as far as I can make out.

I've got previous with these, and I like them. This one seems like a good one.

Good purchase, these were on my radar, in spite of my blue oval hatred.

Ooooh is it going to be saved?

Yeah, it's going to be my daily. Or 'weekly', as I tend to use a works motor to come home in most of the time. My own car sits in the yard from 8am Monday to 6pm on a Friday with sometimes one trip home in it one night during the week.

We’ve just had one delivered at work, seized by the police for no insurance. It’s absolutely rotten as fuck everywhere, literally no sills left.

MoT expired in September

Scary that this was being driven around without insurance last week, but rusty ones should be terminated, never seen one repaired well, and unbelievable amounts of internal rust. By the time you see rust, they’re unsafe.

Yeah, I looked at several as a first car for my mate's daughter a couple of years back and was quite shocked to see just how badly they'd deteriorated. I'm quite tempted to take this over to the old man's workshop and give it a thorough dousing in old engine oil to try and keep the tin worm at bay. It's survived this long......

Where's Tayne with photos of the Ka 'Superleggerra' courtesy car he had last year?

Picture of the fuel cap or it didn’t happen

It's crusty, but I've seen worse.

Think 'a few coldsores' rather than 'genital warts'.

The rusty one at work is mint round the filler...

Good MoT history too. Advisory for corrosion last year..

Not just being negative, but a lot of these are unsafe. A good one is a rare thing, can see it being ultra rare, and worth something in he future.

The missus had one of these on a 55 plate in 2013 despite me trying to convince her otherwise, the rust was quite fucking incredible. Sills, fuel filler, doors, boot, around the rear wiper, a pillar, scuttle everywhere. The dash didn't light up at night, the heater fan blew up, the exhaust crumbled to dust driving it one day, I took great delight in fragging it once the clutch went after a few months. I absolutely detest them. Nice purchase though :D

Some of them are so rusty I am surprised that they are worth anything at the bridge - there's no steel left.

Four days in, nothing's fallen off, nothing's needed topping up, it's not once failed to proceed, and it's doing about 43mpg.

All I've done is channel my inner Bercow.
