Milford Cubicle Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I didn't mean to mark you out as a 'typical teenager', but even as a named driver your insurance is going to be extortionate. What's the 'trolling autoshite' thing in your profile about? Do you know what trolling is?

brammy777 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 being this age does my head in, literally see cars i want on ebay all the timeive been tempted to ask my uncle to store a car for me in one of his barns, and then wait until im old enough to actually afford driving it.Sadly, im not sure if any of the motors i want, would cope with not moving for that long.Ah well, we can always dreamand anyway shite will always be on the road, so i have much to look forward to.
Milford Cubicle Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 How did you know my age Milford Cubicle ?Super ninja internet detective skills.Anyhoo, I was 17 not that long ago and all I could afford to insure was a 1.3 litre Polo. Even the joys of a Volvo 340 1.4 were out of my grasp.Once you're 21, you'll be able to get classic car policies with a couple of insurers, which will make some desirable shite a lot easier to insure.

brammy777 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 really? only 3 years and i can get a 'classic' (autoshite)?win isnt your age on your myspace?im sure you had a photo album linked to it from here.

brammy777 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Its tempting, believe me, but i live in one of the most expensive places in the UK, and garage rental is nuts. The barn idea would work, but my uncle lives in Aberfeldy. Which is 500 miles away. And there is no way in hell our C3 could tow anything more than a few feet.I could ask my college, but i wouldnt trust them with any car, some of the students are utter dimwits.
Minimad5 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 And there is no way in hell our C3 could tow anything more than a few feet.I could ask my college, but i wouldnt trust them with any car, some of the students are utter dimwits.I know how you feel mate trust me I see loads of cars really cheap on Fleebay but they are miles out And my dad isnt too keen if they are more than 20 miles away And we cant tow anythin' due to not having a tow bar or car trailerAnd as with the college people. Again i know what you mean i bet you have the guys that pretend they know everythin' about cars but dont know sh*t"Put a K&N filter on it an it goes like 500MPH"God i hate people like that I guess we make the small majority of Young people that are actually keen and really really interested and willing to fix, restore and repair cars Best of luck with getting a car and place !
brammy777 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 oh my god yes, seriously at college i am constantly ridiculed for liking the cars i like.'Oh they're shit, cos they're old.'I absolutely hate new modified cars, unless there done by the manufacturer. Its quite funny, everyone asks me the year of whatever car we are working on, because our teacher told them to, as i apparently know every car and every registration.Only took the best part of my life to do so.But yeh cheers mate, hopefully you can get something sorted with this Thema.
MrRegieRitmo Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I only just sorted out insurance in my own name for the first time last November, I figured at 25 it was high time I stopped being a named driver on my mum's policy. I could have tried sooner but it was too easy to just carry on with cheaper premiums albeit without earning any no claims of my own. Also getting the Alfa, a group 14 insurance car, it wasn't a good time to try & seek my own insurance, even as a named driver the premium was still about a grand a year! I was duped into collecting 'mickey mouse' no claims with Direct Line which I found out meant I could get discount when I sought my own insurance cover with them but wouldn't be able to take it anywhere else as it was only recognised with them. However, they cut me a bit of slack when I finally set up my own insurance with them for the Renault 9, saying that come this November I will stand to earn 2 full years proper no claims of my own which I can take with me! Paying just over £40 a month, with both parents named drivers (for a change). So by the end of this year things will be much rosier, 27 yrs old & 2 years no claims should see me getting some noticeably better deals I should think!
Minimad5 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 But yeh cheers mate, hopefully you can get something sorted with this Thema. Thanks mate appreciate it !(An yup i get the same hassle too from friends, but funnily enough from family aswell ringing up every2 seconds "Can you fix my car")
MrRegieRitmo Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Aah Minimad5 you cant be the "typical teenager" you seem to be quite sane, and interested in doing something other than the usual stupid stuff. Here it's always been 'anything goes' with the vehicles & the people, that's the attraction of it, the only boundaries are those of our own imagination! (or is that Retro Rides..? )I remember being 17 & the cars I wanted were things like an MG Maestro & a Lancia Delta HF Turbo, there was no way I was going to accept anything ordinary, I'd have rather walked...in fact that attitude is still held now & why not?! Anyway, the insurance soon brought me back down to earth with a bump! They all said come back to us when you're 25 (which at the time was a lifetime away), so I was staring into the abyss of something mundane & ordinary when I wanted something interesting. In the end, I got what I wanted, ok so it wasn't a Lancia Delta HF Turbo, but it was old, rare, interesting, Italian, rust prone & I loved it! The insurance companies didn't mind it either, it was a MkI Fiat Panda 45 CL with the original metal grille front end - it was love! You never forget your first, no matter what you end up with....

MrRegieRitmo Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 So you would have built up a nice little wedge of no claims by now then....if you'd got your own insurance! I was the same, I thought 'pay £1000-1500 to insure a car myself?? Sod that!', so I paid about £800 instead as a named driver! (although that was on the MkIII Fiesta Si 1.6, the Panda was only about £500 ish I think). Thing is though, if I'd only borne the large premium for my own insurance initially, I'd have made things better for myself in the long run, because if I was confident in my ability to drive carefully, it would have come down fairly quickly in accordance with not making any claims. Whereas what I had was years of paying a reasonably high amount (but not as extortionate as the initial sum for your own premium) as a named driver with no clean record to build up & benefit from & therefore didn't see any change in my premiums other than for getting slowly older & for changing to smaller engined cars, so I'd have been better off trying to absorb the big initial outlay for my own insurance from day one!
Angrydicky Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 buy an Austin A35....I'm 18 and when I was 17 I was able to get insurance through the owners club for £450....about the only thing the owners club is any use for!
Mr Lobster Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Hoping that i can get a trailor and tow car to potentially pick up the Thema just need a rough idea of priceHey Minimad, you know that if you are 17 you won't be able to legally tow a trailer don't you?Age doesn't matter on here anyway, as long as you're not planning to buy up Renault 20's / Charmants / Tagoras and put on massive chrome rimz and dustbin exhausts then you'll be most welcome

Guest Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 CharmantsHey I'm in the Charmant for a change today, I feel like some sort of Autoshite king. Makes up for it firing a load of lukewarm coolant in my gob when I changed the fan switch sensor yesterday. Agh!
