My mums flrst car was just like that blue Metro (as was her sister's, but black). I'd love to rock up with one to see what she said but I really don't want a Metro!

Didn't realise the 'square' steels were metric, I wondered why I was seeing less and less of them on Mets.

That's on a par with the white taselled loafers pic of several years ago.

The jar of pickles looks to have bollocks in it, amongst other things.

Ah the cavalier 1.6 diesel, what a hideous machine.

Mate of mine swapped a mint 3dr black escort diesel for two of them back in the mid nineties, a terracotta hatch and a black saloon. The terracotta ran, sort of, wouldn't always start when cold etc but generally worked ok, rotten as a pear back then, got sold at auction when it actually started on due to the auction thinking it was petrol, £3's worth did the job ok!!!

The black wouldn't start at all, but bodywork wise was as new, mint fresh but it wouldn't go unless off a bump, or freezing cold, he had it compression tested and engine was scrap so we scoured the free ads and found an estate by Cardiff airport that had been standing for a while. To be fair, the engine was mint but even at less than ten years old it was super rusty, arches pure crumble, every panel dented, faded and full of rust. A small sum was exchanged, I think a ton and the journey home being towed by the terracotta special (same colour as the estate) commenced. Within 5 miles we realised Vauxhall's finest* diesel engine was not up to the tasks of powering itself let alone double it's weight so I drove the beast** back. In fairness, it went quite well, way better than the terracotta special but we still needed to give the illusion that we were towing it because sans tax mot etc.

Got to Swansea and thought fuck it, rope off, it'll drive back ok. Flat out form the dual carriageway I quickly realised there was something badly off with the handling, it scrubbed on every corner and generally felt like blamanche. It got us to the unit and the next day we stripped it down and we were in for a suprise***. Engine and box came out easy, because we connected everything up top the the driveshafts etc and whilst jacking the last bit to get everything it off the way, the car did a navara but in the front where the chassis legs just snapped and engine ended up pretty much on the floor, happy days. By the time the lot was out we could see the full horror, it had rotted literally everywhere by the bulkhead/chassis etc. Total nail.

Still, he had the black one for a few years on Honda alloys that had a way smaller centre bore than the vaux ones which only went on with a huge airgun and when he tried to remove them to sell it decided that they wouldn't play ball, ooopssss so they stayed with the car.

Why can I only see the whole car in pictures that are over 3 years old?

So that you won't see how much the heap has deteriorated over that period.

You asked, I answered.

I know that GMC Sprint, it lives down the coast road between Barrow and Ulverston.  Last year it had some serious welding done around the windscreen aperture, guess how I know?  Hyacinth was sitting outside waiting for hers...................

i'm certain that the blue Metro VdP was doing to rounds this time last year, with the same photographs and twice as much on the asking price!

I thought the photos looked familiar. Wonder what it actually looks like now
