A Morris Marshall!  Be still, my beating heart:

s-l1600.jpg

I really should explain this.

Put the kettle on, it's story time:

Nuffield had an Australian factory, in Zetland (a Sydney suburb), and built, amongst other things, 6-cylinder Morris cars.  These sold in steady numbers to people who hit the open road regularly and wanted a 6, and preferred English cars.  People like me, really.

So the pre-war 25, the Six MS, the Isis I and II all were popular in Australia, but sold in decreasing numbers on account of the Holden also being a compact 6 that did everything the Morris could do.

And as you know, in the UK, BMC were having a 3-way C-series bet between the Westminster, the Palmer-mobiles and the Isis.  The Westminster sold by far the best of the three and won out.

But in Australia, the Morris dealers would have been left without a 6-cylinder car for their showrooms, which would have been a disaster for the brand image, even if buyers came away with a Minor or Major instead.  Remember Morris was a BIG name back in the late 1950s.

The solution?  The Morris Marshall was developed from the Austin A95 Westminster (badge engineered?) in a foreshadowing of what would happen to future Wolseleys and other BMC products, being Austin-derived.

But the Marshall deserved a Morris identity on account of its Morris engine.  And one can reside in my dream garage, along with an MS, an Isis, and a Major Elite.

If only I had somewhere to put this.  $3000 is not too much.
