That could be a bit of a bargain. If, it's a genuine 'S' that is. The 'S' is the turbo 'R' without the turbo so handles well rather than rolly polly's its way round corners. It's obviously had chrome arches on to cover the rot which has probably made it worse.Also should be painted in thermoplastic acrylic which was always good paint that lasted well and should polish up okay. The arches always go but are available for (quite a bit really) not much and it would be a fantastic, rare (not many made so desirable) old motor.

I bet you're right about the Chrome arches. Why, why, why?

 

There'll be a more common car out there with an arch profile similiar you could use to fix it that costs £30 rather than £300.

when did these start getting this cheap?

 

i like the shape, but the stories of those mondeo engines destroying themselves if the oil isn't up to the max kinda put me off.

 

plus did this version finally sort the rust issue from the mark 2's?

Nope, Probably just as rusty as a good mk2 (despite being ~8 years younger) and don't handle like a '5 should.

No! My one was as rusty as fook underneath and it was newer than that one! Still doesn't seem to be any protection underneath at all. I was quite appalled at mine which was one of the reasons I got rid of it so soon! Mine never used a drop of oil though and went well, I liked the engine/gearbox (left leg working days only!) and the handling which was fun. But, it all felt a bit 'grown up' compared to the sporty, naughty earlier ones, which is why I now have a MK2 again.

The 2 litre seem a bit more robust the 1.8s just seem to blow up without much warning . I'd have a 2.0 one any day.
