I don't see what's not to like with the theory of it. Classic British looks with Japanese reliability. Similar power (+12bhp) and possibly a few more MPG's. 6-cylindery goodness is gone though.

Undecided on the GT6, to me,most of the appeal is in that lovely 6 cylinder growliness.

I know they're not that fast,but they sound fast .if you want to go fast ,just drive your modern Tdi.

Perhaps it would make more sense replacing a Spitfire engine, but then just drive an MX5.

 

In conclusion , I've convinced myself , there is no point,but to hate it is a bit much.
