Front n/s wing seems to be a bit creased but hey ho, I'm more annoyed at myself than anything.

I get cold sweats every time I drive onto the ramps it's nerve wracking.

Thing which really annoyed me was I thought before hand must be careful not to go too far, then that's exactly what happened. No point getting stressed over it though its done now. Helps if there's someone there watching you on.

Yes these things happen and it sounds like there's not too much damage, those Focus's are tough old things.

Yes they do seem to be tough. Second coat now on, just let it dry now.

I look forward to seeing the finished result

Next job now is to fit the LED rear number plate lights when they arrive.

Tomorrow marks 11 months since purchase and now just over 14000 miles covered. The next long trips are to Longleat in about a fortnight and later on in October a trip to an industrial railway in Rutland is on the cards.

It's great to see a car being so well cared for

Thank you, I've always felt if you look after a car it should be reliable. Thanks again for the loan of the ramps Dan.

Bit of information I found out about the origin of the 1.8tdci Lynx engine. Its an update of the 1.8 diesel Endura engine which in turn was based on the 1.6 diesel fitted to Mk3 Escorts and Mk2 Fiestas.

Almost a year since I purchased Henry, where does the time go?

Posted

I've just been working out the fuel economy figures for Henry and comparing them to the computer, in 417.8 miles my calculations are 45.2mpg compared to 46.2 the computer shows.

Posted

Henry has covered just over 600 miles in 2 days at an average of 61mpg according to the OBC which in reality probably means high 50s.

LED rear number plate lights arrived so will be fitted soon.

I'm starting to wonder if there's something else going on with the headlights on Henry as the passenger one has a bulge in the bulb now, which isn't right, and the drivers one is still playing up.

Posted

Henry is going into the garage tomorrow to get the washers sorted out, thanks to some monkeys at Longleat they don't work properly at the moment, also to get the EML sorted once and for all, so will mention the headlights while he is in.

Posted

I asked about the headlights when I dropped Henry off, they said they have known several Focuses/Foci/whatever the plural is that eat headlight bulbs for no reason. They said the next time it needs some put some Bosch bulbs in.

I've heard that's quite a common problem

Yes it is, I believe all Focuses/Foci up to the Mk3 had that system.

Just going to pick Henry up now. They said the glow plugs were that knackered they have no idea how it started let alone ran. Shows how hardy the 1.8tdci is.

Edited to add they said there's a good chance the glow plugs were the original ones. Not surprising they were fucked if that's the case!

The other fault that was showing up was to do with the EGR, I'm tempted to leave it as Henry runs and drives fine and emissions at the last MOT were fine.

Posted

Henry been dropped off for new bonnet lock and cable, they are also checking for any new fault codes just to make sure it is the EGR causing the EML to come on.

New bonnet lock fitted along with some wiring sorted, the central locking has been playing up a bit lately but hopefully that should be sorted too.
