Shut up, that's normal behaviour!

Sometimes when it leaps like that, turn it off and on again and it's rock steady in the middle. Driving to the allotment it was steady all the way, until I started reversing down the track. Then I turned the engine off, ignition back on, and watched the temp guage do a little dance between half way and 85%, like when you get flickering lights before a power cut.

Then I got home, and it sat there like that for half an hour (whilst I figured out how to get the bairn out without waking him. Roof down, obviously.)

Hopefully it's just the gauge. Hail mary, touch wood, fingers crossed.

It does go pretty well. 16 miles of hard driving and it seemed steady on the temperature gauge.

Ride is excellent, really impressed with that.

Could be improved: it'd be nice to have somewhere in the cabin to keep an egg box safe. They're usually alright on the passenger floor, but it's not nice when they do occasionally open.

Behind the seat is where I stash breakables.

Posted

You mean on the "parcel shelf", or actually behind the seat back? Do they all have the drinks holder which folds down above the armrest?

Posted

I mean actually behind the seat.

There's only an inch or so behind it when it's in my position, and it's right against the bulkhead when tonton is in it.

And you're taller than me. How does that work?

Posted

Crikey, never ever saw the temp gauge in that position, I think I just had a teeny bout of atrial fibrillation there.

Please keep the zip tied front bumper. It offends the pristine owners brigade and was worth it just for that.

And it's the wrong colour.

It suits the car.

The erratic temp gauge is hopefully just a dodgy sensor.

Worse case scenario you may have either a sticking thermostat or fubared cooling fan ?

I can think of worse..

But there are a few better case scenarios which seem more likely. Airlocks being one. Hopefully I'm not trashing it by ragging it around in the meantime.

The fob has given up again, so if you know where I live, please don't steal it.

Temp sensor is easy, I did it on the red one I had briefly. IIRC it is located to the top right hand side of the engine, just above the coolant bottle. If you unplug it the fan should come on.

Noticed this morning that the lights were fucked.

One duff rear positioning bulb now replaced, the brake light switch was jammed - now freed, the reversing lights still don't work, and nor does the high level brake light.

The high level brake light is working it's just that the wire leading to it don't 'cos of broken somewhere. Been like that for yonks.

Not sure why no reversing lights mister.

Posted

Probably bulbs. There's no interior lights except the rear view mirror too.

Edit: Cheers Ken, I might rewire the HL brake light as I find them useful

I checked the taillights the night before it went, and they were ok, although I did have to give one a tap to light it up. Interior wise, the footwellights always worked, not sure if there are any more.

I think this car is try g to make me look like a rogue!

To be fair to it, it had a full tank on Friday morning when Andy sorted the fob, and it's been brimmed twice since then. Probably hasn't been used as much as that in a while?

Both taillights were working on Saturday.

Footwell lights haven't though!

Posted

Oh yes, andu brother in law reversed it down a wall. Back bumper has lost a bit of paint

Posted

Definitely hadn't been used that much! Hope you're enjoying it.

Yes, we both are! Very handy and mildly fun

Does anyone happen to know how long ago the oil temp gauge gave up the ghost?  Seems like a sensible thing to fix.

Posted

Oil temp senders are near impossible to find...

Posted

Yeah, I see they appear to be £60 at Rimmer's.

Maybe not then!

Who cares how hot oil is anyway.

I know I don't.

But then, I don't care for paintwork either apparently
