Yea, i'm sick of no colour cars. I also have silver, silver and black. Big cars especially aren't a colour anymore

Very nice. I have a 560 same model. Take it for a nice long run with fresh petrol to shake it down. More than £60,000 new at the time so a mega-bargin. The leak may be rust under the rear screen. Use Mercedes parts wherever you can - most should be available and MB dealer invoices look good in the history too.

When I had a cheapy 300SE a couple of years ago I got most parts from MB. Cheaper than Ebay half the time.

One of my dream cars! I had a red matchbox toy one that was one of my favourites

....Grace Jones would all look right at home in there.....

Grace Jones prefers a CX.

Gnnnh! Staggered 16" Lorinser LO wheels!!!! The best aftermarket Merc wheels of ever.

Yep, Lorinser were a big styling company. Mainly wheels bodykits and lowering kits. This beauty definitely has the kit and the wjeels. Will likely have got the springs as well when new.

I think I still have a Ripspeed catalogue from about 1984/5 which lists Lorinser kits for big Mercs. From what I remember, they were not cheap! The only other styling houses I remember catering for Mercs were Zender and, much later, Rude Mercs.

That looks the dog's bollocks, don't change a fucking thing about it!

Very well bought indeed.

Not only do you not see big red cars these days, you don't see big lairy red cars.   This belongs in a three car garage with similarly hued V8 Vantage and Bentley Turbo.

There was a bloke round our way had one this colour, proper dodgy geezer-in-over-his-head type.   Not in a gangster way, rather in a public school boy who met the wrong fellas.   That was a Lorinser, too.   As said, don't change a thing - even though I hate aftermarket Merc tillers!

And AMG, before it was 'assimilated'.

It had a splash of fuel before I 1st tested it then I put £50 in to bring it back. Ran faultlessly for about 30 miles until it cut out at about 55mph, cranked well but not a cough. Started instantly when back here. No poor running.

Rear screen leakage a known "thing" on these............unexpected unpleasantness may be present in rear parcel shelf area

Nice. I looked at these just before the 635 came along, and there were some proper dogs laying about.

To add to the other suggestions above, check your battery connections are not loose... Been there before!

Having to already support* 1 big old motah, I'm glad i only have matchbox versions of these.

And the earthing of the battery. Not being properly fixed can lead to intermittent probs.

These run K Jet no? Could be a multitude of things, warm up regulator being one or the thermo time switch. A weird and wonderful set up - everyone else had moved onto Motronic by this time.

The very same. Still is.

Yea, K-Jet. Looks to have a lot of bits and pieces on top of the engine I've not investigated. Pump and relay seemed reasonable place to start.

Check for a spark when it dies. I had an E21 323i that did the same trick and it was a faulty distributor - a break in the coil windings that opened up when hot and the closed when cool. Used to happen on the W123 280E as well.

Ta. Was a fast slip with limited tools so did basic glance checks then called the cavalry. Will do relay etc and try again with someone available to rescue me.

Didn't run badly, just cut and refused to restart.

I’d put money on that being a non spark issue. Is it K or KE? My Bosch book doesn’t cover the 126.

Take an old spark plug as well.

Ooof! that is a beauty, it's perfect exactly as it is (minus breakdowns).
