should i save a renault 19?

Should be picking up the renault tomorrow morning :D Beg'd and borrowed the money and garage space to keep it in. Well worth the hassle even though i don't need it as the car is getting saved from the crusher and ive seen too many good cars getting scraped at this yard. If i ever stop spending all my spare cash on cars i might even buy a camera phone and take some pictures of this yard and put them on here, this place has to be seen to be believed. They get so im told 150 -200 cars a week an pretty much all of them are scraped. So the chances of this renault getting saved was slim to none. Was parked in with the rest of the cars with a boot carpet left on the bonnet awaiting depoulition when i saw it last saturday. So it was on the verge of death! Moved it myself from the rows of cars waiting to be depoulited and drove it past the crusher. Parked outside there office to stop it being scraped or dismantled. Find out tomorrow when i pick it up! But should be intresting driving it back to were im keeping it with day insurance as ive only driven it round the yard so hope its ok.I'LL LET U KNOW :)

Nice work burnside, you have demonstrated great dedication to the shite cause, you will be rewarded for this in due course. Now your task is to acquire a shite camera and furnish us with a series of pictures of your new steed.

Congratulations indeed, now what we require next is pictures.

Good news the 19 has been collected yesturday afternoon! :D Thankfully hadn't been messed with. Drove it out the yard over the weigh bridge an saw a w reg rover 45 beeing picked up with a forklift off a recovery truck. Made me glad that the renault hadn't suffered the same fate. Still haven't got the v5 though, will hear off them tomorrow as the women at the office hadn't left it out for me and the lads there didn't have a key to the office to get them  Got day insurance for £20 and it even had a quarter of a tank bonus. So i drove it to my brothers friends garage were im tempory storing it till i get some money togther. Don't want to keep it there as its a rough area and the local chav scum who live oppersite were eyeing it up but got no where else at the moment to keep it. Try an sort that out asap. Think it could be running too hot not sure. Hope it isn't headasket related but knowing my luck! Oh well. Didn't have time to investgate as i had to go to wales in my cavalier to take a friend to pick up a calibra turbo that he is gunna break  for his mk3 astra sport maybe shouldn't mention that as ive read the post on here. Anyway when i drove the 19 back it hammed it down with rain all the way to my brothers friends house and found that the 15in bk alloys that are fitted are making the steering heavy so might be tempted to fit some standered steel wheels with some ten quids instead but the alloys do look good. What do u all think? The other issue was a slight waterleak from round the remote key sensor mounted on the roof panel which has the interior light/map light electric sunroof switch mounted to it. Hope that made sence. Think this might be leaking from the roof mounted ariel? Unless somebody knows diffrent. Will try an hopefully get some pictures up soon. Need to post the rest of the fleet up soon.

Cool numberplate font, shit wheels!

+1.Sack those piles of toss of to the nearest chav and get some Turbines or ATS Cups for that slight scene look.Or bung some steels on it from the local skip for that 'apathetic fuck you all Autoshite vibe'.

Good save, even still wearing the original dealer plates. Please get shot of those wheels. Local chavs will probably lose all interest once you put something more subtle - or just the original steels - on :)

looks tidy better pics should be taken at once

Looks good so far, wheels are nasty though. Better pics pls!!

Is that a Renault font or just a Nottinghamshire Renault font? There used to be a Renault main dealer at the bottom of my road when I was growing up... the name escapes me now! But all their cars through the 90s had the same squared off font, even my mum's 97 Megane.Loved that garage, it was a proper oldschool showroom with a huge workshop round the back. Remember them having a 5 Raider out on display :)

Wounder how many original Raiders are left? not many i bet!! Love the proper old garages, i used to work at a fiat dealer that was like that. The font on the number plates is a really nice touch i think too, im not sure if that was a Renault only or just a nottingham Renault font used. Although the last 19 i had few years ago, also a J reg oddly enough used that font on it's plates too? And that was from the Netherseal Renault dealership near Swadlincote which is no longer about, funny Pillock you mentioned about a Renault 5 turbo.I seen a H reg one today oddly!! went past a Renault dealer in Cannock today and they had a Early 90's Renault Alpine in the showroom.Yes it's agreed the chav BK racing alloys are going!! ive found some original Renault 19 "13" inch steels for a bargain £10 each with tyres and wheel bolts!!No wheel trims at the moment tho, which means ill be going for the retro council estate look!!That'l put the chavs right off!! some phase one 19 16v rims would be great. You never know ill see what i can afford when i get some spare pocket money!!

Yellow foglights, and they work! It does look like a very tidy and honest car, nice job saving it.Is it single point injection or does it have a carb?

Wowzers, that looks well smart! Just the wheels letting the side down. Love the reg plates and the yella fogs. Nice save, I have taken my hat off to you for going the extra mile to save what is still a mega ordinary car in most folks eyes. 16.3/10!

Bloody hell, excellent saving skills. That looks really good, should clean up a treat.

I'm surprised by how good that looks as well, I agree with changing the wheels but the rest looks spot on, Top work that man! It looks just like the one that ran me over and broke my leg in 1989.

It's a carb model this one which surprised me, it's really tidy overall. Only had 3 keepers according to the log book, thanks for all the good comments im glad it's been saved rather than in the crusher!Yeah i love the yellow fogs, ill probably upset some boy racer chavs with those at the local McDonalds drive thru!I took it for the Mot the other day, it failed but not on much:-Both front coil springs o/s bottom balljointCentre exhaust sectionRear shoes. The garage even remarked on what a nice car it was!! should have it back monday when it's been done. Can't wait to start driving it as it's quite nippy!! and ive sold my Punto so need some wheels.Bought four correct steel wheels with tyres for £45 the lot!! with the wheel bolts & some Renault clio trims too so bit of a bargain.Just need to give it a basic service, fix the slow drivers electric window, seal the leaky roof ariel, get a CD player, and replace the parcel shelf as someones cut holes out for 6x9 speakers. Then covered said holes with carpet............. nice!Don't worry trigger im not planning on running anyone over with this one :D

Want some yellow H4 headlights to make it REALLY French? Get in touch if you do! Recommended for all cars, but particularly French ones!Andrew353w

I doubt you'll be able to get at the window motor without destroying the door trim. They seem to be glued on over the whole area. Just use the window a lot and it will soon come back to life. Maybe spray a suitable lubricant down the runners. The aerial's easy enough to get to, just unscrew the sunvisors and the headlining should come down enough- it's an 8mm nut.

Nice save!! I had a low mileage phase 1 green 1.9td with all the goodies that I sold to a m8 of a m8, who ended up trashing it :( If the elec window motor turns out to be knackered, i,ve got a pair in excellent working cond

Posted

ps, agree with Richard about the door cards being a pain to remove. Renault seemed to never want those cards removed, as the backs are thickly covered in greenish glue

Posted

Looks like ill be giving my trim clip tool a work out!! ill try some rubber lubricant 1st for the window rubbers.

If not ill try and practice removing the door card off a scrap 19 1st i think!! but yes cheers newoldstock if worse comes to the worse ill be interested in the door motors!!

The aerial should be easy enough like you say Richard, just got to remove the interior lamp to gain access according to the book of lie's!!

I like the idea of the yellow H4 bulbs Andrew353w, ill let you know as funds allow!! Indeed that'l be very French!! will go well with the fogs.

Heres a pic with the steels and trims on!!

And to think that was going to be scrapped, well done for saving it, and sticking a middle finger up to the scrappage scheme!

Talking of which, I read that Mandie is in hospital for a prostrate op. Which means some doctor has had to.....

Bet he loved that. *bleurgh*
