LightBulbFun Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 I justed wanted to say Quote Haynes: As described in Chapter 7... Translation: That'll teach you not to read through before you start, now you are looking at scarey photos of the inside of a gearbox. is very appropriate for this thread should anyone make the mistake of skipping ahead a few pages (from here for those not aware, its a right laugh http://messybeast.com/dragonqueen/real-haynes.htm ) paulplom, adw1977 and PhilA 1 2

PhilA Posted September 20, 2019 Author Posted September 20, 2019 #5 washer ordered. Hoping Tuesday it'll be here. Reset timing, noticed that revving the engine the timing was moving the other way. Not sure the vacuum retard works- gonna check on that after the fact. Phil
PhilA Posted September 21, 2019 Author Posted September 21, 2019 Oil change ready; just bought 2 gallons of engine oil for $21 I like this "unsuitable for engines newer than about 1994" business. Phil LightBulbFun 1
Zelandeth Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Is there any sort of standardised colour scheme for the wiring like was common on British cars back at least in the 60s and 70s? While a lot of the detail work will still involve crawling around with a multimeter and crossing as many fingers as you can, it can at least speed along the basic sanity checks or help narrow down potential faults.
PhilA Posted September 21, 2019 Author Posted September 21, 2019 Within brands, yes. I have used... not the colors they had. But the scheme makes sense. Phil

PhilA Posted September 23, 2019 Author Posted September 23, 2019 I did a whatnow? Silverado? Daily hack. 2007 model. 1500 LT. Nothing particularly special
PhilA Posted September 24, 2019 Author Posted September 24, 2019 One headlight was missing this little clip. P.O. had used Sikaflex to hold the headlight trim on, sub-optimal. New clip $12, screw that. Take a length of baling wire and bend to shape. Unfortunately baling wire has the metal strength of plasticine. Cue heat treatment! Warm the wire up until it's orange hot and then quench in water. Repeat but not quite so hot. Then heat to cherry red and let cool slowly. Result- harder metal that still has a bit of spring. Fit into place, nice design that it's mostly geometric lock. With Sikaflex removed, peg now fits into the slot at the top. Screw holds it in at the bottom. Nice. Matches the other side now and is significantly less likely to fall off. Phil busmansholiday, Skizzer, mercedade and 6 others 9

PhilA Posted September 27, 2019 Author Posted September 27, 2019 Fitted new oil rings to the governor shaft. Fitted governor in place and located front servo and feed pipe from rear pump. Rear servo in place, front oil pickup pipe and strainer. Reverse lever mechanism and valve block fitted. New oil seals and rings put on. Oil pans fitted. Will have to take them apart again to redo initial band adjustment but wanted to make sure everything fitted and no crap gets in. My shoulder is killing me now.
