PhilA Posted January 24, 2023 Author Posted January 24, 2023 1500 miles elapse, check. Oil change. Needed it. LightBulbFun, Rust Collector, De Selby and 6 others 9
PhilA Posted January 27, 2023 Author Posted January 27, 2023 I now wish I hadn't taken the heater fan out. The motor has a brush that disintegrated and it's all overheated and... Dead Ordered a replacement. It'll be here Tuesday. mk2_craig, Mrs6C and Low Horatio gearbox 3
PhilA Posted January 29, 2023 Author Posted January 29, 2023 Bought some brushes, modified them to fit. That got it running again. It won't last but should be ok until the new motor comes in. Filled the transmission up with new oil. $60 at Tractor Supply. Seems to be better, will give a full report once I've done some miles on it. Phil Coprolalia, hairnet, GrumpiusMaximus and 9 others 12
PhilA Posted January 29, 2023 Author Posted January 29, 2023 Yeah, initial impressions are that's helped. I'll see how it behaves in traffic. mk2_craig, Datsuncog, Dyslexic Viking and 8 others 11
PhilA Posted January 31, 2023 Author Posted January 31, 2023 New fan motor. Blows nicely now and it's almost silent. The old motor is kaput. RayMK, GrumpiusMaximus, mercedade and 4 others 7
PhilA Posted March 2, 2023 Author Posted March 2, 2023 Spot what I'd done wrong with the old brakes (don't ask me how I managed it). Left side coming unbonded, that would be ugly if it let go. Car looks goofy, cleaned the wheels being as they're there. LightBulbFun, GrumpiusMaximus, RayMK and 3 others 6
PhilA Posted March 4, 2023 Author Posted March 4, 2023 Gave the paint a bit of TLC. bigstraight6, hairnet, Dyslexic Viking and 11 others 14
PhilA Posted March 4, 2023 Author Posted March 4, 2023 Something to fix on the car today. A little while back I had accidentally jetwashed the paint off this wheel trim. Keyed the area with 1500 grit paper and masked it off. Much better, pretty red now. Well, crap. I'll know it's there. hairnet, Crackers, Rust Collector and 8 others 4 7
Asimo Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 Those brake shoes - are they upside down? The lining looks to be offset toward the handbrake cam at the bottom rather than toward the wheel cylinder at the top.

Don't ask, it was getting late in the day when I put those brakes together. I've corrected that error with the new shoes. Asimo, somewhatfoolish and Rust Collector 2 1
PhilA Posted March 5, 2023 Author Posted March 5, 2023 The day cooled off enough that I could polish the roof. Car always looks better in indirect light, it bleaches out in bright sunshine. Phil somewhatfoolish, RayMK, Mrs6C and 9 others 12
hairnet Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 thats completely different to when you were scraping the laquer peel off it
Crackers Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Such a cool car. That's all I've got to say. GrumpiusMaximus, LightBulbFun and PhilA 3

PhilA Posted March 20, 2023 Author Posted March 20, 2023 Just been driving about. Weather has been cooler than average (10-15c) so it's nice to have the heater on. Photo courtesy of daughter, on the way home from Walmart. Lovely. It's been used to go to guitar lessons, traveling about in general. Gearbox working well in the cold proving the heavier oil is what it needed. I think 50W for summer should see it work well. Wife and dog joined me to D&D for milkshakes. Dog was barking at everybody. Chilly night, the heater was most welcome. Today went get some abrasive papers, and saw this. It was followed by this. Time for an oil change. Mrs6C, vulgalour, Dick Cheeseburger and 15 others 18
PhilA Posted March 25, 2023 Author Posted March 25, 2023 Oil and grease this morning. Oddly the Mobil1 Delvac diesel oil was cheaper than the off brand store own brand oil. So that's what it's got in it. RayMK, Dyslexic Viking, GrumpiusMaximus and 2 others 5

PhilA Posted April 17, 2023 Author Posted April 17, 2023 A suitable tachometer has been obtained. Better than the one I have in it which is starting to get flaky and has the redline less than half way across the sweep. GrumpiusMaximus, LightBulbFun, Dyslexic Viking and 2 others 5
PhilA Posted April 17, 2023 Author Posted April 17, 2023 Need to paint the bezel black but that works. Phil loserone, LightBulbFun, GrumpiusMaximus and 6 others 9
PhilA Posted April 18, 2023 Author Posted April 18, 2023 Nice night last night so I decided to take the car out. Ran horribly for the first few miles, bad misfire on two cylinders which cleared up once it got warm. Stopped for milkshakes, Thursday we're out of town and the last few weeks we haven't been. Car looks so small parked there. lesapandre, RayMK, Datsuncog and 7 others 10

Zelandeth Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 One of the few cars where a HGV rev counter would fit the scale better! PhilA 1

Trying to find ones that work both off a set of points and also the alternator W terminal is difficult though. I just need 0-4000 and this fit the bill perfectly.
PhilA Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 Oops. Pulled up to the end of the street to wait for the school bus with my kid, and tore the exhaust pipe off. Yay lowered cars. Rust Collector, STUNO, GrumpiusMaximus and 2 others 1 4
