F##kin autonomous BMW mirrors arrgh

Got an E46 coupe (I know). Just this last week when I unlock the car the bloody mirrors adjust themselves. I haven't touched any of the seat or mirror memory functions since I got the car so don't know why this has started. I've looked on the internet and can't seem to get an answer so thought I'd ask the grownups. I'm really not into electrics so my answer is to set em where I want em then pull the fuse. Anybody on here got a better answer?

Are you using the same remote each time?

 

Some cars have electric seat/mirrors/steering wheel programmed into the remotes so you have his'n'hers type settings ready to go when you get in.

 

Find out how to store the settings, on Volvos it's set them, and the seat where you want them, then hold Memory on the seat and the number you want it stored under, and I think with that key in the ignition.

 

It'll say somewhere in your handbook.

If you have a seat memory function, you need to set the car up how you want it (seats and mirrors), and then press and hold "M" while selecting #1 (as I assume you are the main driver).  It works for me.

Cheers lads. I've only the one key anyhow and have never set anything. I've had a do now at setting on memory using handbook so fingers crossed!! Does anyone know if they go fucked though?

My preferred solution with my 428i was to get rid of the entire hateful vehicle.

 

The passenger side mirror would drop to point at the kerb when reversing, which is fine in theory for stopping you scraping the alloys except 1) it pointed at the sill instead of the rear wheel and 2) It’s fuck all use for actually seeing where you’re going.

 

One of many reasons why that car was deeply irritating and I will never go near another BMW newer than an E34.

 

 

I realise this isn’t very helpful to you, but it made me feel a little better. It’s part of the therapy I’m having to get over the trauma.

My daughter's 330d sometimes decides to adjust the seat and mirrors when you start it rather than unlock it . Again only one key and we've never set the memory. So I'd go with the mind of its own theory.

Also no help but if the four cars I’ve had with memory mirrors, two (jeep and land rover) have had a random approach to “memory” once in a while. Oddly the Jags have been fine.

If you open the car with the fob and hold the button down for a bit longer than normal then that will usually move things to their memory position. Flummoxed me at first when I had the 75.
