Fiat X1/9 in Banbury Scrapyard Shocker

It's as rough as a bear's arse. Don't ask me how much it is, or the phone number for Smiths of Bloxham - Google is your friend. I fucking hate these but there are some spares on it, or buy it whole.

If anyone could post it to a Faceache X1/9 page, that'd be good.

I've bought worse X1/9s. That even looks saveable.

Have to guess that's an estate clearance victim...given the money they're swapping hands for nowadays I can't see any other logical reason for it being there.

Looks like the vast majority of the little bits of trim and such are all present and correct, which is the real sod with cars like these usually.

At the very least that would be a damn fine spares car for someone.

You can get it reinstated upon DVLA inspection.

That big fuck off hole on top of the sills probably is the reason it’s there. If it’s from an estate I’d be surprised it’s there to be honest, the breakers near me is the same, from time to time they’ll get something really old in that’s obviously sat for years. If I chanced across something old and interesting I’d whack it straight on eBay and get the eleventy million quid and wait for the enthusiast to come with the dust pan and brush. Can’t believe people are gullible enough to just ring the scrapyard. Unless it’s an outfit like the council who are unfathomably stupid and would sell the gold reserves of China for 38p if it was in one of their crummy lock ups ‘cause policy’.

Bloxham is very serious prime estate. When you've bought a bit of land for two million quid or a 500 grand cottage to restore, a rusty old Fiat is just 'call the scrapyard dear'.

Staveley is prime shite.

Judging by what Father Abraham in stores wants for parts, you'd think Staveley was twinned with Knightsbridge.

You've clearly never owned or looked after an X1/9.

That is a small hole.

Whoa! I went out with a very nice girl from Staveley once!

Wait, I'm confusing 'nice' with 'red hot and filthy'.

He’s alright, I’ve always used him, the younger chap is a bit odd, always wants over the odds for everything, has to inspect it for about two hours before he can make his mind up. “I’ll have to see it first!” Alright then I’ll spend 3 hours taking a gearbox out and we’ll talk about the ghastly subject of money after. Not sure it goes like that.

To be fair, that may not be the only hole.

I’m thinking about the sensation you have when you break up dry Weetabix would be similar to jabbing that Fiat with a blunt object.

Looks like there's a fair few useful bits and bobs still on that... hopefully it can be of use to someone.

Would agree that it's possibly been a clearance, where it's just seen as another bulky item needing disposal - clothes to Oxfam, furniture to the auction rooms, old heap in the garage to the scrappie... check, check and check.

After all, no-one weighs in a Fiat (or indeed, Bertone) of that vintage hoping to make a mint on scrap values - you'd kinda be better off weighing in the tinfoil wrap from your lunchtime sandwiches...

It's all a bit no-win, mind - if it arrives on the back of a flatbed and gets issued with a COD by the yard, it's a bloody disgrace etc. If the yard tries to save it from the crusher and punt it on via Ebay despite its extreme patina* and probable lack of keys and/or V5, then they get grief for being greedy, just bloody scrap it etc.

Hey ho. Nice colour, mind.

Think I saw this for sale on the Copart UK website about 2 weeks ago. [ Don't know what it sold for on there.] Hence the Yellow pen markings on the Windscreen.

Shame if it ends up being scrapped but if it does, I hope that all the useable parts are saved. It has alot of difficult to find parts as other people have pointed out. Those Centre Caps alone are notorious for being hard to find from what I've read about other peoples past X1/9 Restorations.

Looks like some Copart paperwork in the footwell.... scrapyards are not charitable organisations...

No, they are running a business. If they started getting all sentimental they’d make no money. It would be a proper shame if it didn’t get saved but I think the scrapyard won’t have the time nor the inclination to fuck about with eBay and somebody winning it then expecting to drive it away.
