Gaffer tape - turn it into racing stripes down both sides if you’re anal about such things

Hi all,

Apologies - I know I've got a few PMs to reply to.

Been away with work, back home tonight and will catch up!

Or emergency vehicle stripes, that wouldn't look out of place.

Back at home, and been asked for some more pictures of the damage. Figured I'd post them up here too, just to show the extent of the damage properly.

It's gutting how such a nice car can become worthless overnight :(

Has the pub got cctv?

Or has too much water flowed under the bridge now?

I've tried to go down that route - they're being deliberately obstructive. Funnily enough the lady that "saw the delivery in" no longer works there, as it was "her last shift"... Hmmm...

Police fobbed me off too, and refused to take details over the phone (there's a web form for this sort of thing now).

I know it's the wrong attitude for something that stands me in at over £2k, but my work commitments at the moment just must take priority over mucking about with cars - hence listing it here to make it disappear!

A very much 'through gritted teeth' sale then. You have my commiserations.

I would love it personally. I can't sell my V70 though, for reasons I explained in the pm.

If I had a few bob to spare though, it would be a different story.

Just a question about the whistling noise.

Does it happen at idle, or just when the car is on the move.

Is it possible it's the slipstream whistling through the gash? (No crude comments, fank yoo).

It's at idle, mostly when the car is cold / warming up. Done the glove test when cold and warm and it sucks the glove in both scenarios. It disappears with a blip of throttle.

Exactly the same as mine.

It reappears when the revs drop down again though. I'm fairly sure mine is air whistling rather than anything belty of that makes sense

Ahh, once mine stops (after a few minutes), it doesn't come back again until the car cools down.

This thing is haunting me - the gash, so wide. The want, so deep.

Have you taken it to a body shop? It looks pretty nasty and is unusual damage but it might not be that difficult for a pro to fix, especially if the part of the panel that is damaged is flat (see photo posted by Al Bundy above).

Gaffer Tape? Come on! For goodness sake, It's a Volvo. Its well worthy of a real repair. Break out the Davids Isopon Glassfibre kit! Permanent, waterproof, and beautiful*

Looks like a perfect candidate for some structural silicone to me.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the interest in this - I had a member from Autoshite visit this afternoon to look at the car and a deal was struck.

Thanks again all who were interested,

Tim

Thank the Lord for that.

It was really gnawing away at me.
