AXrescuer Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Sadly my elder brother has just been diagnosed as having it. Great news is that we all spent most of yesterday at a BBQ with him. Luckily he's not too bad right now but had a bit of a funny turn Friday night and became really feverish. As he looks like death warmed up most of the time it's really hard to tell how ill he actually is! Guess it's just a matter of waiting now for me the wife and kids.....Anyone want to be our flu friend and collect our Tamiflu for us when we need it!
whitevanman Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Bloody Hell, your luck don't get much better as timer passes does it................hope it all ends well for you
Father Ted Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 The strain doing the rounds at the moment is mild, so unless you have underlying chroinic / severe health problems you should be all OK if you do get it ( official DOH advice and personal experience from working at the Primary Care Centre). You will feel a bit shit for about a week then recover - normal flu advice is whats given along with antivirals (plenty of rest, fluids, keep warm, play scrabble etc)Peronally i hopes I gets it now before it mutates - which it will do and becomes more severe as whist this wont give total immunity against the mutated virus, it will give a pretty good head start- a bit like being vaccinated against whooping cough wont stop you getting all the strains but will make what you end up with as a milder form. There is of course every chance you wont get it, I've been round 3 people with the virus and still not come out with any nasty rashers Good luck anyway.
Pillock Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Sadly my elder brother has just been diagnosed as having it. Great news is that we all spent most of yesterday at a BBQ with him. Anyone want to be our flu friend and collect our Tamiflu for us when we need it! I'd rather come round, eat your bogies and get some time off work. Looks like they've given up on containing it and are just resigned to "it's not that bad, just take these pills and stay in watching Jeremy Kyle" sort of control. Good luck fella.... I'm doing my bit, I've just finished my bacon sandwich.
Richard Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 it's not that bad, just take these pills and stay in watching Jeremy KyleI wasn't worried about catching it before but now I'm shitting myself.
gtd2000 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Feeling as sick a pig yet? Back in the day, when I lived in Hong Kong I came down with one of those Asian "superflues"...Not a great experience - 4 days of falling over and rolling around like a drunken arsehole and not knowing WTF was going on. On the 5th day I felt like shit warmed up and as if i had been battered sensless with a baseball bat.It took me at least a month to get back to feeling anything like approaching normal. One of my mates who was with me the night I came down with it ..slept at his place as I was living on an Island and couldn't get home.. disappeared off the radar for about a month - turned out he'd been in intensive care for two weeks with the same flu.Not recommended...
AXrescuer Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 Well we're all okay at the moment. I have a flu jab every year as I'm asthmatic so I just hope that will help to minimise any symptoms should I come down with it. Kids are all healthy and we've been told not to worry too much about them.Spoke to my brother this morning, he's ok too apart from some muscle pain and vomiting.
dollywobbler Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Spoke to my brother this morning, he's ok too apart from some muscle pain and vomiting.Oh no. I guess that'll be the Jeremy Kyle taking effect...

AXrescuer Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 I've always been scared of getting Parkinson's Disease. The thought of having to do endless celebrity interviews does not appeal at all!
garycox Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I feel absolutely crap today, I hope I don't have it! I don't get sick pay either, so it better be gone by 8am tomorrow!
Father Ted Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I've always been scared of getting Parkinson's Disease.Dont hammer crack cocaine then - OK it wont guarantee not getting normal Parkinsons, but grack depletes the dopamine in your sweed and rather usefully bungs the receptors up preventing reuptake of dopamine and the use of typical antiparkinsonian drugs (methyldopa).
simmo Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Girlfriend's sister has it, mild symptoms and an automatic 2 weeks off work. She is in the second week now and her car was ouside the pub so on the mend I guess.
FredTransit Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 No offence to anybody who has got it, but I have far more things to think about right now, flu has been about forever, never mind what it's called. As Father Ted said, unless you are already ill for some reason it's not good news to get, but is unlikely to kill you if you if you have a normal immune system. How many people have died in the UK? Very few, and all of them were either very young, or already ill with something else. I can't help thinking Swine Flu was only reported to take our minds off the economy, and as soon as the thing about the MPs expenses kicked off, it was forgotten.
whitevanman Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 . I can't help thinking Swine Flu was only reported to take our minds off the economy, and as soon as the thing about the MPs expenses kicked off, it was forgotten.Ahh.........so you noticed that as well...........

AXrescuer Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 Well wifey and I have just been confirmed as having the damn thing! Thankfully, neither of us feel too bad at the moment but the doc has given us each a pack of Tamiflu tabs. Kids seem to have missed it so far but I'm thinking I'd rather they got it now rather than later in the year.

I can't help thinking Swine Flu was only reported to take our minds off the economy, and as soon as the thing about the MPs expenses kicked off, it was forgotten.Ahh.........so you noticed that as well........... Yep! It's flu. Not nice to get, but unless you are already ill with something it's unlikely to kill you. Not aimed at you AXrescuer, just a generality. I don't understand why the media are making a big thing about it. To my knowledge, no healthy person that's got it has died. Hardly the bubonic plague is it?
Father Ted Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I don't understand why the media are making a big thing about it. Hardly the bubonic plague is it?Easily treated with Gentamycin  Honestly I would be more arsed about contracing galloping nob rot than Swine Flu.
AXrescuer Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 I'm a bit concerned as I suffer from Asthma and also have Hypothyroidism. As I sad though, don't really feel too bad other than a really claggy chest.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I used to have a ginger tom cat that had hypothyroidism or whatever it is. It was permanently hungry and used to try and get into the cupboard to rob the cheese.
Mr Lobster Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I had a cat that was permenantly hungry a few years ago. used to try and break into the fridge so I had to fit a child lock. Bugger still managed to get in though, once managed to get a chicken out and and ate virtually the whole thing.GR8 4 LEFTOVAZ THO.
FredTransit Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 The cat thing sounds more like Cushing's Disease.
AXrescuer Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 I used to have a ginger tom cat that had hypothyroidism or whatever it is. It was permanently hungry and used to try and get into the cupboard to rob the cheese. It doesn't manifest itself like that in me I'm glad to say!

MrRegieRitmo Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 The cat thing sounds more like Cushing's Disease.Does the cat have a constant desire to watch hammer horror films?
AXrescuer Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 Really feeling like shit today. I've been given loan of a nebuliser to help my breathing. Hope that this doesn't last too long, it's really not nice at all. On the upside, wifey is doing well so at least I have someone to fuss over me!
pompei Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Keep yer pecker up - hope you're over the worst of it soon
