Fixerating the ZT. Help required. Repair booked in :)

There is no way that I am going to be able to do this on my own. Too ham fisted tbh.

There are a couple of mobile specialists out there but none of them answer the emails that I send. This is despite them supposedly dealing with the KV6 as well as the regular K series.

I know this is going to cost about 200 to 300 quid to do. I will get it done in a couple of months, so no immediate haste.

Is there anyone on here who is willing/able to do? I'd rather give cash to someone on here than other folk who can't even be bothered to answer messages. That is a pet peeve of mine.

The car is near Chelmsford CM1.

Cheers

Thermostat.

I always find that a call works much better than an email.

Also, as much as they can be Merchants of Doom, a quick ask on the 75 and ZT Club will throw up someone nearby. Thats how I got in touch with one.

There is only one person you need.

Don't email him - telephone him.  He will answer or call you back on the same day.  He will give you a fantastic price, come to your house and do the job there.

MJS (Mike) is a legend in this field.  I bought my 75 from him last year, he's a top gent - knows the cars intimately and I wouldn't go to anyone else.

There is also a place near Southend that SD1 used for the belts on his KV6, he seemed pleased with the work.

This is the place - http://www.britishlegends.co.uk/about

Bornites guy might be a better bet if he will travel to the car though

Ooft! I’ve done a thermostat on one of these and it is a grade a bellend of a job. Trust me, take the inlet off. I thodon’t got I could do it by putting my hand through and under but it’s too difficult.

Have a crack yourself mate if you take the inlet off it’s like an hours work

Just to add if you were local I’d have done it too.

It’s not a complicated job, no special tools, nothing unusual either. Bit of a pain separating the inlet in the V but that’s it. Just needs a wiggle.

I tell you what might be a better option.. a simple in line thermostat. I fitted one to my ZT and it took ten mins (the diesel zt thermostat is a shitbag too). They’re about £6 from eBay and just fits in a pipe. Trick is identifying the pipe. However the thermostat housings crack and that’s what leads to loss, if that’s the case you’ll need to do a swap.

If it’s just running cold consider he above

Cheers mate, annoyingly the housing is leaking. I have not the hands of a 5 year old small person.

Russell from MGRoversolutions is booked in to do this on the 26th :)

Thanks folks :)

Internet is rife with horror stories on how difficult it is to do the thermostat housing change on a KV6. Just at it is regarding changing the timing belts.

In honesty neither are that difficult. I was panicking about doing the belts, but taken slowly and methodically it was no big deal really. I would have done the thermostat change happily but it wasn't leaking sufficiently to bother about at the time. These things are actually fairly easy to work on providing you ignore the scary OMG stories. Put on some big boy trousers and get on with the job. Worked for me.

The KV6 isn't scary.

You haven't seen me wield spanners have you. Trust me, £150 is the much, much safer option.
