I'd like to think there'd be very few on here who would prefer to see an MG like above saved than this..

I think that might be the MGB that crushed my finger so it would give me great pleasure to see the favour returned.

I don't think this is much fun for some of the dealers the manufaturers are watching them closely http://www.ase-global.com/news/scrappag ... notes.aspx

Scrappage Guidance Notes25/08/2009Accounting for the scrappage schemeSet out below are notes in respect of accounting and related VAT treatment forvehicles sold under the scrappage scheme.Invoicing and VAT treatmentAmounts received under the scrappage scheme should not affect the VAT amountdue on the vehicle being sold. The amount should be shown after the gross value of the vehicle, like a deposit, as areceipt of funds. This must be split into two amounts; the amount due from thegovernment and the amount due from the manufacturer. The amount receivable will then be included in a scrappage ledger account awaitingreceipt from the manufacturer.Accounting and composite submissionsFollowing the above treatment, the vehicle sales value should be recorded inclusiveof the scrappage receipt of £2,000. For example, if the vehicle is sold for £7,995comprising of £5,995 from the customer and £2,000 from the manufacturer /government then the gross sales value would be £7,995 inc VAT. The vehicle cost ofsale will be unaffected by the scrappage receipt. However, if the manufacturer contributes additional amounts over and above the£2,000 then the excess should be recorded as a discount from the cost of sale. Forexample, the vehicle is sold for £14,995 comprising of £11,995 from the customerand £3000 from the manufacturer / government. In this case, the sales value wouldbe £13,995 (inc vat) with the £1,000 (inc VAT) excess manufacturer receipt beingrecorded to the cost of vehicle sales / input vat.Treatment of receipts from scrap dealersIf you are lucky enough to be paid by a scrap dealer for the vehicle then this is avatable supply, even though in most cases no invoice will be provided. There is no consensus on how this should be done, though there are two main ways,1) A list of all receipts should be kept and a manual adjustment performed to theVAT return to pay over the correct amount of VAT.ScrappageGuidance Notes2) The vehicle being scrapped should be included in stock with a nil value andset up as a non-qualifying vehicle. When passed to the scrap dealer aninvoice would be raised for the amount received. The DMS should thenautomatically calculate the correct amount of VAT, though your reporting oftrade vehicles will be affected.Documentation to be retainedThe following documents need to be retained for inspection until at least 7 July 2017!1) A copy of the V5 for the vehicle being scrapped.2) A copy of the MOT or hackney carriage licence for the vehicle being scrapped3) A copy of the invoice for the new vehicle showing the scrappage allowance asa specific deduction.4) Details of the new vehicle including registration number and VIN.5) A copy of the certificate of destruction for the scrapped vehicle.6) Customer data protection and vehicle disposal agreement. The above are the minimum required. However, it may be worth including (just incase):1) Proof of customers ID2) Copy of car tax certificate on old vehicle3) Hire purchase check on old vehicle4) Customers insurance details. For further information or advice please contact Paul Daly on 0161 493 1930

Ah that's nice and clear then. Not. Anybody want to call Paul and give him some stick?

I work in my local Halfords (actually I left yesterday  ), and ive had several cars in this year asking for stereos etc to be removed as the car is going in for scrappage!!Ive had a tidy MK3 Granada and a T reg Daihatsu Cuore to name but a few!!Also we are on the same park as the local Ford dealer which is the main dealer in the SW (Vospers) and ever week i see a scrap truck with a load of cars from scrappage leaving in the morning!! Lots of boring stuff but ive seen everything from Megane Scenics that look only a few years old, Ford rangers, Probes down to a mint looking Morris Marina and cool little Triumph Spitfire!!Its a sad sad sight!! :(

Though yesterday I tried to look at things from a different perspective whilst taking some stuff to the tip, that at least all of these cars have seen some use over the years. Whilst I disagree with what's happening to them, it's some comfort at least. I hate to see waste!

Is that Cavalier still taxed??? what a waste.. but then i suppose its only worth about £3.50 at the moment so you can see why someone would have entered it into the wastage scheme.. its not as nuts as the likes of the MGB etcEDIT: Just noticed this is my 1000th post on Autoshite. Which makes me strangely happy.

I think the deal with the Cavalier is that it's only got 12k on the clock, Though the oily engine makes me wonder if it's true.

This EARLY LAND ROVER on U pull pisses me of a bit, looks very tidy as well.

Hey Guys,I agree with all the comments, this subject (excuse my potty mouth) fucking pisses me off a treat!!Surely the cars that should be scrapped are the cars that will never get an mot as they are terminally rotton or beyond any economic restoration not mot'd on the road carsThis subject is something that really makes my blood boil very quicklyThe only thing we can do is save as many cars as we can and look after our fleet that we have . . cheersRichie :D

From the governments point of view theres no point in paying people to scrap old snotters, as they will get scrapped anyway within a year or two. People with old shitters probably cant afford to buy a new car anyway.

I think this kind of debate will go on for the duration of the wastage scheme. It is an old W123 Merc in the background of the Cavalier pic. A nice one too.I'm 99% sure that the Cavaliers mileage IS genuine. It's just too good for a pre-facelift MK3. It looks like it's been garaged but used often, hence the oily engine - standard feature on the 8 valve engines.
