The wear on the driver's seat seems to tally with the mileage. It still has all the little silver trim on all the air vents which is a good sign as well.

The chrome on mine started to peel off other day, it’s pretty bloody sharp as well!

From the layer of dust in his old car he doesn't really touch them anyway 😂

I didn't pay much note to the interior bar a glance, it wasn't top of my list of what could be shit.

£1900 and his hyundai is gone.

Doesn't help that there really isn't much that's the same size and shape and ulez free and any better. Been a fair few cars listed these last few days but they've all had lingering advisories for a couple of years etc

Any car at that age is very likely to have advisories, it’s nearly 20 years old, it’s gone way beyond its design life. Problems will crop up and to be expected.

Oh yes, but I'd prefer them to be things I could help him sort/won't be the big rusty seized up things. Equally he's thrown money at cars in the past, he wouldnt be averse to finding some fb mechanic chap to do medium sized jobs if they cropped up and were worth fixing.

He's got an insurance quote for it now for £480 fully comp with some level of brakedown cover. Could get the car, insurance and a good service done for what he got for his fucked car (brakes are optional depending how it feels but I priced discs and pads up anyway for him)

It’s academic until he’s heard it fire up and driven it.

Yes, that is the key to all of this, and he knows that which is good.

I think we're going back tomorrow...

He's signing the paperwork now with £100 off

Drives fine, zero knocks or bangs. Pulls fine to the 45 we managed to get to and emergency stopped from that straight and true. Aircon blows cold, engine is silent. Few bits peeling on the doorcards and we found the code for the radio in the glovebox.

Seems decent enough.

The worst of this will polish out. He's insuring it as we speak

I'm home now. My friend stayed in London and has driven a bit and got parked up fine.

They'd given it a very cheap wash, and it wasn't cold when we arrived sadly but it seems alright. We left it idling for half an hour whilst he insured and taxed it and I put the radio code in, got the rear bumper clips more aligned where the corner was not together, a couple of cable ties from behind one day should see it right. The rad fan didnt come on but the temp needle stayed rock solid and the engine bay didn't feel overly hot, so we classed it as a good thing.

The worst things so far are the head unit doesn't do Bluetooth audio (only phone) and one of the clips for the parcel shelf string is snapped, which my friend said was fine as he'll take it out tomorrow and probably never put it back for the dog.

We'll see if it shits itself being smashed up the m40 later tonight when he comes home 😂

I did warn you!

I did mention it and he shrugged. It's got cruise control which apparently was broken on the hyundai so score draw there (is there a way to add BT audio? A dongle for the back of it?)

We also didn't want to put the radio code in to check it incase we improved it before sale.

Search eBay for an A2DP Bluetooth unit. The last time I looked was over 4 years ago and they weren't cheap then!

Cheap chinese Bluetooth modules have moved on alot in a few years! (assuming that plug for the back of the 6000cd is the right one?)

Or he could just buy an aux cable?

Posted

He briefly looked for the cable for that but we couldn't see it. Plus phones don't have 3.5mm Jack's any more, it'd have to be some fag lighter Bluetooth to aux thing, the behind the dash mod looks better (probably the same components as the cheap shitty fag lighter BT to aux stuff too 😂

Alls well so far

Best get oil and a filter ordered up for it, then a good check round and clean as it may not need anything else this year...

(the alexa thing is some adapter he had plugged into the hyundai. Zero idea what it is, it's not an alexa audio that I've seen but whatever, looks like that problem is solved)

Bluetooth wasn't even standard fit on many Mk4 Zetec's. I used an aux cable plugged into my phone as a workable hands free system.

Troubles already 😂

Any ideas/which fuse should he pull?

Posted

He's out trying to find it under the glovebox in the dark now. Wonder why it's doing that/it might get a switch fitted somewhere on the main power feed if it carries on.

Probably the set faulty, they’re cheap enough to just replace.

I never encountered this fault on any of mine. I would suggest disconnecting and reconnecting the battery first.

I've told him to unplug the aux and 12v from his audio think incase that's keeping it alive, and check there's no keep alive setting set on the radio. Otherwise I'll try and pop over with tools and contact cleaner and poke around

Back on the mondeo today, the radio staying on fully killed the battery. Jump from his wife's car had it running

IMG20240825130323.jpg.ad414bb7ef21720a4a2072a750a85ae8.jpg

Whilst it charged we checked some of the filters (fine) and plugs (need changing).

I then found the 15a fuse for the radio so at least it can be isolated

IMG20240825125955.jpg.55f3cd801ca2c8d3d616a29f4a99b756.jpg

That done and the car turning on again (a good 14.something volts going to the batt from the alternator), I started stripping the car down to follow the few leads I'd found from forums

We found no stashed drugs or lost money, but could remove the radio. Several posts say the wiring could be fucked about with and causing issues but all seemed stock and fine. Had the Nokia bt brains out from under the glovebox as suggested and unplugged but nope, radio stays merrily playing when the car is dead locked and the keys are in our hands.

Other posts suggest the ignition switch, but everything else on the car turns off fine, it's just the radio.

Some posts suggest the 6000cd is just fucked and needs replacement which could happen, but if it's not that causing the issue we'll have wasted some money.

Some of the missing fuses are making me ponder, should they be populated? Surely the can bus would shut the feed to the radio down though and not need a seperate ignition fused feed?

We're gonna leave it for a few days, now my friend knows which fuse does it he can unplug it and it won't stay on all night, if it didn't need the code re entering every time I'd fit a small switch to the live feed.

This is a mystery to me as the 6000 CD unit isn't known for giving trouble unlike the Sony DAB unit found in the Ghia and Titanium models. I had one of those fuckers go up in smoke on me once.

Fit a relay piggy backed onto one of the ignition controlled fuses.

Probably lose radio preset memory like.
