Moar estate action.Ā
Ā

My mate was working in Derby, so he collected my EMTB from Ilfracombe for me, following fitting of a new motor and brought it with him.

It means aĀ mere 300 mile round trip for me.

That’s a lot easier.

Brucie Bonus in that it wasn’t nicked out of his car in an MK Premier Inn.

Pah! I fitted a fridge freezer in mine.Ā

That’s a massive corner sofa in these two. Was pleased with that.

Biggest I have had in mine and shut the boot was a 6’ 2ā€ sofa bed, IIRC.

I just lug building materials around in mine. I’d be surprised if I’ve not goosed the trailing arm bushes as a result but hey ho it’s a workhorse.Ā

I've inherited into this thread. Never would have bought one, but have been left a 160k 2008 Titanium estate, and it's not a bad drive actually. My father in law was a keen canoeist, so it is rather damp inside. Hopefully just from wetsuits drying out rather than a water leak!

Quite impressed by all the toys for a 12 year old car!

Anyone that drives or gets a lift in one is usually impressed by the spec at the least.

A Titanium doesn’tĀ have that much in Mondeo circles, but no doubt pisses all over the competition, still.

We look forward to pics and I hope it behaves for you.

As it happened, he'd asked me to wax the underneath the week before he died, so that's my job for today. And here's a photo of it in all its glory!

They don’t really rot underneath so I wouldn’t bust a gut to wax it.Ā

You say that...

Ok, most of the rust is on the subframe, but it's just starting on the shell. And regardless of the merits or otherwise of doing the job, I agreed to do it so do it I will! My 'payment' was to be the remainder of the Bilt Hamber UB, which ended up being around half the container.

Just normal surface corrosion.

Eventually that rear subframe will rust through but you will be a 103. I don’t know if you’ve ever picked one of those rear axle assemblies up but they’re made of thick heavy gaugeĀ steel.Ā

Yeah, I'm not too worried about the subframe, but it will be an interesting test of the UB when applied to a rusty surface. Exhaust look not long for this world, but this is to be strictly just a hack car so nothing is going to get done unless it needs it!

Budget BBK incoming.

Been interested in doing this XC90 front brake upgrade for a while and the calipers are creeping up in price. You used to be able to get them for Ā£15 per side. But, given they fit Land Rovers and BMW’s, VAG (IIRC) and all sorts, people are charging more, these days.

Takes mine from 300mm to 336mm with the use of appropriate S80 or something discs. Bolts up and uses the standard hoses.

My mate just picked some up for his TXS, so it gave me the shove I needed to get some before it’s the norm to pay Ā£120 per pair.

I picked these up 5 miles from mine, for £40. The upgrade is welcome and said to be worthwhile.
They will look loads better, too. They are vast.
Given for some reason,Ā the Mondeo brakes are the same between 2.0 and 2.2. May eĀ even 1.8,Ā they look lost behind 19’s.

Been fighting with this ungrateful bastard that belongs to my dad, for over an hour.

I’ve never had any issue with fitting headlights on these, but my mate said he has and it took him about an hour and a half.

Fuck that. Tomorrow.

The oil filter housing is also in a stupid place and I could only use an adjustable spanner with the jaws set to 27mm and had to be content with turning it a minuscule amount at a time.

Is it the Euro4 or the Euro5 which you have a C spanner? I found the former easiest with a pair of filter grips round the body of the filter housing to get it started.Ā

He's not being physical enough with the headlamps, removing and refitting is a five minute job.

No idea. Never needed for a 2.0 140 or 2.2 200. this 2.0 163 is to the side of the alternator. Daft placement.

It’s me. Believe me I was being physical enough.Ā
The bottom clip doesn’t seem to be engaging, I think. I’ve had these in and out of various Mondeo’s. As you say, five minute job.

I was being too physical with this and was going to break something.Ā
Hopefully they just slide in, when I have a look again, tomorrow.

It's normally the corner nearest the grille that needs some forceful persuasion.Ā

What's the issue with the old headlamps? Are the connectors burnt out?

I can’t get them to slide far enough back, where they locate into the wings. The bulb cover is hitting the slam panel.

The lower clip is also catching, even though it looks like it is engaging. As it’s covered in scratches.

I just had them out to change the bulbs. What a carry on, over something so simple.

Still far better than changing a bulb on a MK5.

Thought my TXS was getting a new look en route to work, this morning.

Had a Berlingo or whatever the reg related to,Ā nearly run into the back of me at about 40mph.
I was stationary at the red traffic lights at the end of the A690 (50mph limit road) for the A19 roundabout and he ended up nearly sideways, at what must have been under half a meterĀ behind me.
Heard him do a comedy catch of the horn as he came to a very undignifiedĀ stop.
Bet he shit himself.

But then he hung back from me - understandably - at next lights andĀ ended up going right back round and shooting off fast.Ā
I didn’t feel or hear anything at all and couldn’tĀ see anything, from the quick look I had when I arrived.Ā

In the chaos, I guess he assumed he had hit me.
