As much as I'd like to keep this, I need the space, especially now I've decided to keep one of the other residents of the garage...

This had been standing for about 20 years when I got it, and wasn't even RUNNING WHEN PARKED UP. I suspected stuck rings was the cause of seizure - how wrong I was. When I got the barrel off, the piston was wobbling about in all directions as the little end (plain!) was shagged. Then I looked down into the cases to find that the crank itself was seized by dent of being rusted solid, along with the main bearings. I can only guess that the original owner gave up when the rattling from the top end became too horrific, and then left it to rot for a very long time. It was, to coin a phrase, fucked.

Astoundingly, you can still buy new parts for these engines, and pretty soon a very heavy box was winging its way to SA_TOWERS containing:

  • crankshaft
  • main bearings (although these were shit and discarded in favour of FAG ones)
  • crank seals
  • piston and rings (complete with upgraded roller bearing little end!)
  • barrel
  • gasket set

These were all fitted, and the engine shoved back in the bike. It has not been run yet, largely because I've been too busy/lazy to sort out the missing clutch cable etc. The scabby paint is original, and has done its job well - the bike is utterly solid. I always felt it deserved better than to be painted over, hopefully the new owner will feel the same! These Phase 1 bikes are much harder to find than the later ones, especially with the attractive* and 100% effective* tin leg shields still attached.

I resisted the temptation to buy Russian brake shoes, as I'm quite attached to not being dead. I had the existing ones relined by Villiers Services with modern friction material. As you can see, the top-quality* aftermarket Russian seat cover fits* like a glove.

It has a pair of brand-new Michelins on.

It comes with a V5c and a couple of manuals - one is in Russian, the other - more usefully - English.

NO M9 YOU CANT RIDE IT HOME.

NOW SOLD!

I may have done a tiny sex wee. I definitely need a cold shower now. Thankfully I'm too short of roubles right now...

That must rate as the fastest sale, if not vehicle, in the annals of Autoshite.

The bounty of the glorious worker's paradise triumphs over imperialist capitalist running dog step-throughs; long live the revolution!

Wow, that made one of my trouser legs stiff for some reason...

How could you even consider selling it?

How did socialism ever fail with peaked caps as large as that? Comrades, it must have been an evil Troskyite plot to sully our revolutionary purity. Lenin would be proud.

I'm spending too much time fixing things, in a garage rammed with stuff, and not enough time riding!

I've had the Voskhod five years, and if I had it another five chances are it still wouldn't be on the road because other projects/studenting/life etc. The new owner assures me it will be ridden (and not painted!) which makes me happy.
