pandamonium Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 As I now run a forum I best get used to the lingo. Here's one I don't understand for starters, - IIRC???Any others I should know?
Ratdat Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 IIRC = if I remember correctlyAFAIK = as far as I know
pandamonium Posted December 10, 2007 Author Posted December 10, 2007 and IMO is, in my opinion?what about FOCROFPMSLMFAO?????
Timewaster Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 FTW! is one used on here a lot.No idea what it means though.
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 FOCROFPMSLMFAO = Firenza Owner Can Relish One Friend's Proton, Might Sell Loved Motor For Amount OverdrawnSaves us typing it out every timeEdit: Sometimes it can stand for = Ferguson Owners Club Remember Own Futility, Perhaps Microcars Shall Lead Many Fans Away Overseas
pandamonium Posted December 10, 2007 Author Posted December 10, 2007 like it, sounds like the sort of transliteration the japs do!
michiel Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Brilliant work!!!!11!! LMAO. ROFL etc. (that means et cetera btw!)
Dead_E23 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 This wiki page explains some of it (might even come in handy on here)

MrRegieRitmo Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 I remember annoying everyone with the same questions not so long ago. FTW was the only one I still didn't get even in full though.....For The Win doesn't mean anything to me! Pogweasel posted a very useful site for translating acronyms, but I was at work at the time I bookmarked it. Sorry.Any chance of it again Pog? Pog is the champion of acronyms, always got a new one for us. There are a couple of long ones, let me think.....one was "have a cup of STFU!" shut the fuck up, the other I can't remember but it consisted of several random letters, not much help but can you remember what it was Pog? I'd love to know what it meant, or look it up if it was one of your 'too rude to be spelt out' ones!
Guest Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 "Have a cup of STFU" actually means "Have a cup of Steaming Tea For yoU!" Honestly, Pog will tell you anything.
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 FTW was the only one I still didn't get even in full though.....For The Win doesn't mean anything to me! For The Win essentially means 'something good'For example: Who's Got the best Ford Granada?Poster 1: "Granada MK3"Poster 2: "Granada MK2"Poster 3: "MK1 Coupe FTW!"
bones96 Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 how about dilligaf ? i no what it means but do you lot ?
michiel Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I'd say 'Do I look like I give a funk?', which to me is a bit of an odd thing to say on a forum...
Dukestar25 Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 WTF??? is another popular one, especially when looking at a V8 Reliant Robin for the first time (What The F*ck???) ...
pandamonium Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 I need help with one thats quite common, ---- (sic) ????
pogweasel Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 [sic] is not a computer nerd term at all. It is derived from the latin for 'thus' and in common usage denotes a deliberate mistake. Example: Look at that Skoda Fellatio [sic]
Dead_E23 Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 ...or one that's quoted verbatim: The greengrocer exhibited his plum's [sic] in the market.
KruJoe Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 ...or one that's quoted verbatim: The greengrocer exhibited his plum's [sic] in the market.Damn those misplaced apostrophes to hell Perhaps you'd enjoy this (if you haven't already): I just started re-reading it again today at work - great fun: A panda walked into a cafe. He ordered a sandwich, ate it, then pulled out a gun and shot the waiter. 'Why?' groaned the injured man. The panda shrugged, tossed him a badly punctuated wildlife manual and walked out. And sure enough, when the waiter consulted the book, he found an explanation. 'Panda,' read the entry for his assailant. 'Large black and white mammal native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.' We see signs in shops every day for 'Banana's' and even 'Gateaux's'. Competition rules remind us: 'The judges decision is final.' Now, many punctuation guides already exist explaining the principles of the apostrophe; the comma; the semi-colon. But people who can't punctuate don't read those books! Of course they don't! They laugh at books like those! EATS, SHOOTS AND LEAVES adopts a more militant approach and attempts to recruit an army of punctuation vigilantes: send letters back with the punctuation corrected; do not accept sloppy emails; climb ladders at dead of night with a pot of paint to remove the redundant apostrophe in 'Video's sold here.' Sticklers unite! You have nothing to lose but your sense of proportion.
Mash Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Ah, someone did recommend that to me once and I never got around to buying a copy. Maybe Father Christmas will bring me one...
MrRegieRitmo Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I think I need that. I thought I was clued up but now I'm not so sure!
mk2_craig Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I have in the past been one of those forum Nazis who don't take too kindly to those who insist on putting an apostrophe before every word ending in "s". Usually to be met with a torrent of foul-typed abuse. Why? It's an additional keystroke you don't need to bother with!
Dead_E23 Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Good to see some fellow pedants on the forum - huzzah!
Mash Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 One of my favourites is the poor grasp of plurals:"Tomato's for sale"Go in and ask "Which one is it?"
Marty Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I blame ITA for my utterly appauling grasp on my mother tongue - anyone taught to read and write using this ..... Is bound to have "issues".
