The Wolseley 18/85S with PAS is a wondrous thing

I also had one of those a few years back

Sold after a happy year, only due to too many cars

If anyone is interested, the 'buyer' or rather, the winning bidder of this action hasn't done anything about collection/payment etc.

What makes these people tick??

So its still for sale.

Want does not yet exceed my awareness that I lack anywhere to store it until OMGMOTKAOS in May. Close run thing though.

I would very much like to take this on.  Trouble is the only thing I can offer by way of payment is an equally rust bothered 1100.  I blame Mike acquiring a Six recently very much for me wanting to rescue this green car.

You'd touch it inappropriately then buy its silence with a large cheque and a nondisclosure agreement? You filthy beASt.

I'd go all 'Harvey Weinstein' on this if I had some more space

You have form for this if I recall

I meant Land crab fondling, if anyone is unsure

Having its form dictated by its function, which in design terms is nearly always for the better, the old landcrab would prove a reliable, comfortable and spacious old bus with plenty of power for all you ask of it. Not the most attractive car, but inoffensive nontheless, the Great British Public were indifferent to its many merits.

If Issigonis had got his way BMC would have gone straight from the Cowley/Oxford to the 1800 without the Farina saloons.    I always felt my Cowley more akin the 1800 I had than the Farina - nice car though they are in their own way it will always represent a backward step to me.    The 1800 was a foot shorter than the A60 but had loads more room inside.

Its also fair to think that had the Landcrab been the product of a French manufacturer the motoring press would have been all over it instead of poo-pooing its looks.

Good job they produced the two ranges to complement one another IMO. Agree with you about the Farina though Trev. Looks a nice car, especially the first models with the high fins and two-toning. I haven't driven one but I understand they were technically inferior to the preceding Oxford/Cowley models, especially in the important steering and handling department. I think the earlier range of cars had nicer interiors too. Perhaps Issigonis felt sour grapes regarding the Farina?

I wouldn't call them technically inferior... True the driving position was a packaging afterthought as were the earlier dash controls.   But they drive so much more modern than the old fifties models which is what the Farina really were

Landcrab around a bend really is like a giant Mini

The ride is better than both ADO16 and Mini by large margin

Go on, drive one.

I think the Squire was referring to the technical inferiority of the Farina against the preceding Series II/III Oxford with which I totally agree having owned both.   Having also owned a Landcrab for a few years I also feel that it was a more worthy and logical successor to the earlier Morris than the Farina which, after all, was purely Austin.

Unfortunately Mr Issigonis is well documented as having taken a fundamental stance against driving comfort!
