A company in my FIL's Road were having a work BBQ and had this parked up. I was having a nose and the guy was trying to get us to stay for a beer, unfortunately I was driving and we had to go off to Tesco. Only had 40 odd K miles on it

Why did they paint bonnets black? 

Bonnets were painted matt black to stop reflection on rallies were they would encounter lots of sunshine. Painting it gloss black kind of defeats the object.

A old friend of mine had, and may still have, one of those 450 SEL 6.9's

She used to bomb it up and down from her place in Monaco to her brothers house in Leeds. Given where she lived, I doubt that fuel consumption was even an issue. 

Her Brother, who had a collection of BMW/Alpinas was always taking the piss out of her and her 'Dinosaur' of a car. However she said it was the only way to travel.
