Bi-Fuel HiAce

HiAce tank = 75 litres, inadvertently filled with 68 litres of unleaded and then driven 8 miles.

Outcome?

If it's an old school non high pressure injection then drain unlead, add diesel it'll probably be fine. If modern fangled diesel the possible pump and injector issues.

The question is what do you do with 74 litres of petrol mixed with diesel?

What Cort said and give it to someone with an old petrol van that will run on it (like me)

If it's a new one drain everything and pump clean diesel through the system maybe drain and refill the filters before restarting

The petrol/fuel mixture anyone on here with an old petrol car and an ounce of sense would have off you and give you a decent drink, i'd simply put in jerry cans and add ten litres of that mix in every time i tanked up, you'd be down to so tiny a Diesel mix it wouldn't matter, unless you have your own petrol car you can gradually add it to.

Drain the tank and as much of the rest of the system as you can, put some fresh fuel in and get her restarted, top her up with fuel and slop a good measure of Millers Diesel addictive in to help protect the pump, might be worth chucking a new fuel filter on too.

Bloody bad luck, i'm paranoid about doing that.

If it's an old IDI and it's running (but badly) - I'd just keep putting more and more diesel in it until the concentration is such that it's running well.  You could try and drain it out, but I'd try my method first for maximum laziness.

If it's a Direct Engine?

Err.  Good luck.

Disciplinary procedures shall not be required in this instance for I am the twat what did it at 5am one morning this week - I really couldn't believe what I'd done.

I have had the appropriate, 'hat off - stand straight - no tea - no biscuits' meeting with myself and there shall be no recurrence.

I have learnt that a HiAce will indeed run happily on petrol with no loss of power, no overheating, the occasional mifire and a lumpy tickover. It won't restart after being switched off but will restart with a squirt of butane down the air intake.

Professional pump out and addition of 20 litres of Diesel was £175 inc vat and no adverse effects were felt, in fact it sounds slightly quieter with a vastly improved throttle response.

Have you asked Sward? I understand he's also an expert in misfuel mongery.

I would advise everyone to do this as a tuning/cleaning procedure and hereby trademark the process as "Alzheimeraclene".

Petrol raises the combustion temps so it burns out the carbon etc.

£175 to pump it out? Owch! Did they let you keep the misfuel? It's good for thinning down veg oil.

I was going for 'MongTune' but may yet reconsider.

Oh Sheefag.

As my old mum always used to say, 'people in glass houses can fuck right off'.

I'm reporting that post as offensive.  You'll find yourself banned in for morning for that nasty little outburst.

Someone will have to type it for you, you illiterate, mackem slacker. Does your Mum still entertain the troops?

Anyway glad to hear you got back from the cash 'n' carry; now crack on Sheefag son, Nisa shelves don't stack themselves.

This is why I'll never own a diesel as I'm guaranteed to put the wrong stuff in it.
