Collection and delivery request (Am now confused!)

Recommended Posts

Am needing a car picked up and delivered. From Oxfordshire (I think) to that there Lancashire. Lytham actually.

No great urgency, but soonish.

Yes, I have bought the Saab 9-3 convertible from Mr Breadvan of this place. Well, not me as such, but bought on behalf of a mate who wants one. I have been tasked with the collection and repairs for actual money. Thus I am trying to sort the logistics of all this. He is hopeless with anything apart from actually driving.

Anyone in a position to help?

Cash/beer/pies or any combination on offer. It doesn't go, so will need transporting.

Ta.

Also, as an aside may I just add that Breadvan has been a total gent despite the recent shizzle. A proper nice bloke in reality.

A rough approximation of cost would be appreciated also ...

Cav and Barb?

Edit. Gottit now. Lol.

Collection from:

close to junction 6 of the M40

..to coastal Lancashire. That's a bit of a trek for an amateur like me. A bloody long day.

Let me sleep on it. Not feeling too keen for this one.

How does the Saab's wheelbase compare to a BX?
And heavy much?

Man maths in action here, but 250 for the car, plus, say 250 for repairs/replacement engine plus around 200* for collecting comes to circa 700.

700 ish for a decent floppy top Saab seems ok. Friend ok with that. My labour will be free..

Collection fee may vary. But hey..

Anyone who fancies fixing the car out of doors could try doing so on site, but that might be a massive faff, and you would perhaps need a van with an engine hoist and so forth .    I do not know if the car needs a new water pump, as this has not been checked.  If it does not need a pump, the car could in theory be driven with a new belt, a fixed radiator hose, and a metric fook-tonne of K Seal in it, but it was suggested on the Saab for sale thread (which was locked without explanation) that Saab turbos might object to K Seal, so that might be a dumb idea.  But ... the car may be nearing the end of its life anyway  (it is 16 years old and has done lotsa miles), so maybe just K Sealing it until it pegs out would be an option for those who like such things.    This is a bangernomicsmobile, not a classic.

Bobthebeard, if the project becomes unviable because of the collection costs or repair estimates, that's fine - I won't insist that you go ahead.   The car can stay here for a while until you figure out what to do with it.

Tools can be borrowed from very near breadvans if needed, ive done cambelt and waterpump with them before!

There aren't many better places to change a cab than chef bv with the views of chod!

The car's an auto, right?

So A-framing is out.

Bob, do you have access to a tow car with some heft? Borrow my trailer if you feel competent, for a small donation to its tyre fund :)

It has ramps, straps, and winch.

It's only just big enough, but will fit, I think.

It's not ready to go today, but should be shortly.

It lives at BD23.

I can get you in touch with someone with transporter who has moved two cars for me from north of Manchester to London for £150.

All insured and professional.

It's a manual.

The car does indeed have a manual transmission.

My 9-3 floppy is 1300kg. A poverty spec BX is just over 1000kg, minus whatever rust has fallen out...

From what I remember it's all up and legal isn't it.

1. Make way to BV Towers using public transport.

2. Tow Saab behind handy UMM with a bit of string to nearest cheap hotel on M40.

3. Next morning phone AA/ RAC etc with tale of non start and funny noises on the motorway the night before.

4. Kip in recovery wagon on way home.

A kind offer, but my car isn't hefty enough and neither do I have any experience whatsoever of towing.

I would be terrified! Oh, and as mentioned the Saab is a manual not auto.

Am still happy to go ahead with this. Will get it home one way or another. Am looking forward to the challenge of fixing it actually!

Manual, eh? Dunno where I got the auto bit from, sorry.

So A-framing may be an option. (Coz that never* goes wrong.)

It's insured, taxed and tested, right? It might be doable if so, but I'm really quite busy for the next few weeks.

To be honest, if StillOrange has a man to do it properly for about £150, that's not bad at all.

The car is currently taxed but the MoT has expired.  It was en route to an MoT test when it went FOOM.    It is currently insured.

Am in the process of getting prices for the collection from Shiply and from a couple of suggestions from within this place. But.

Breadvan informed me that he has now been banned from the forum! Am confused. If so, how can I make contact to arrange stuff? A bit in limbo at the mo. Has he really been banned? Seems a bit harsh.

He's not banned, his posts need approving before they appear. At least that's the info from Cavcraft on another thread.

As for the Saab, shirely the AS way is to buy FOAD's tranny, drive it direct to BV towers, collect the Saab & drive home?

His private messages still work.

Yes, I realise that. That is how he informed me that he has been 'banned'.

Just makes the logistics of collection a tad awkward if he doesn't read or reply owing to being kicked off here....

Oh dear..

In an ideal world yes....

Lol.

I suspect that he has taken this badly though....

The whole shizzle is making me a tad edgy about committing to a collection by a Shiply type.

I can see why he would, but those that have met him say he's a decent chap. I have no knowledge either way.

He seems a decent chap to me also.... Always polite and a gent by PM. Plus a massive wealth of knowledge and information. We have had the odd forum spat in the past, but always quickly resolved.

Verdict.
