strangeangel Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 I do remember it coming up for sale when it was still in Suffolk. Key rot spots are inner front wings, sills, boot floor and rear subframe mounts, which are all pretty easy to check. For the latter, remove the plastic trim either side of the rear seat base and see what it looks like in there. Well, from our cursory inspections so far - inner front wings look pretty solid. The boot floor and inner rear wings have had some welding done but look OK. Not sure about the rear subframe mounts but it doesn't look too bad underneath in general (although it's been a bit difficult to examine it properly when we can't get it off the floor!). Anyway, there is a plan afoot to get it to Shitefest! So hopefully the fuelling problem can be sorted, and BXpert eyes can be cast over the structure in order to assess the level of corrosion. And Beko can clean it, obv Vince70, KruJoe, dollywobbler and 3 others 6
barrett Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 I'm pretty sure the last owner did a fair bit of welding underneath to get it solid, but didn't manage to progress much further to getting it back on the road KruJoe and strangeangel 2
omegod Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 I've donated fuck all yet but I have a selection of good batteries that may work in the Gallic Caramac and am not too far away, let me know size and ampage and I'll see whats what KruJoe and strangeangel 2

beko1987 Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 Really, I can clean it? Reckon the museum would let me use power and water? If your super, ultra serious I can bring everything and we can have an afternoon of it whilst getting drunk... strangeangel, chaseracer, Ghosty and 1 other 4
KruJoe Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 Most sized batteries could be made to fit, there's loads of room in a BX, especially one with a suitcase lump. (Unless they have smaller batt trays than the diesels - they don't, do they?) Still_Orange is away for a few days now, but if anyone can get a good batt to Billy in Chester in the next seven days, I will collect it and install it next Sunday. strangeangel 1
beko1987 Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 I'm sure Billy will buy some bridge fodder before sf that has a good battery!
omegod Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Righto, I have a, free, fully charged Varta battery out of an Omega 26cm long, 16 wide and 17 high , 60 AH / 560 amp ( whatever the fuck these mean ) Can be picked up from Huyton or Bootle if anyone's passing on the way to Pieland KruJoe, eddyramrod and strangeangel 3
KruJoe Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 I'll measure up tomorrow on a random BX I have here to see if that might fit. If it's available to collect from Huyton this Sunday afternoon, please PM me the address, and a phone number. Thank you! strangeangel and eddyramrod 2
strangeangel Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 What a pity I was too incompetent to get a decent picture of the Beige beast's shelf... the battery described would easily fit in my diesel BX, but I can't remember if the 14RE is less accommodating. Arse. Still, I'm fairly certain that bodgery is our friend, at least in the short term

stillOrange Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Yo, comrades! Stage 1 Stage 2 Au revoir mon ami! So BeigeX is going on a trip I would do but can't due to work commitments... It's already off to Shitefest thanks to KruJoe. Have fun people! trigger, Six-cylinder, strangeangel and 14 others 17
Felly Magic Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Someone get a tin of beige Dulux and roller paint that back bumper
stillOrange Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 I think it's slightly too big for the tray but I'm sure that can be sorted out.Thank you for your help! strangeangel and eddyramrod 2
KruJoe Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Well with OMG's batt, and a drop of pez down its neck, we lifted it enough to extract it from the lock-up and aboard the veg-powered road train. Cavcraft, Lacquer Peel, Skizzer and 6 others 9
KruJoe Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Castle_Cleland achieved: Well nearly, that's our pile in the background. I stopped off at The Field of Dreams. Free beer occurred, so it would have been rude not to partake. chodweaver, Lacquer Peel and strangeangel 3
KruJoe Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 GDHaydock and Captain_Flimble doing what needed to be done. Cavcraft, johngarty and strangeangel 3
KruJoe Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 More pics from a grand day out: Coprolalia, eddyramrod, RobT and 4 others 7
beko1987 Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 How's the paintwork, will it come up ok with a good clay and polish? Will it take a pressure washer being fired at it? KruJoe 1
stillOrange Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 Erm, looks like you got the back up. Did you get it running? KruJoe 1
beko1987 Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 Erm, looks like you got the back up. Did you get it running? He's re piped it and tuned the fuck out of it I reckon... It's now got the engine out of the convertible 205 running at full 320touring spec boost powered by cabbage juice... The Moog 1
stillOrange Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 And it only needed the fuel line sorting out...They might as well make this convertible as well
KruJoe Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 We had it running for a minute by John_F dribbling pez down its neck. We didn't do owt more drastic, as they were already a good way down last night's barrel of ale by the time I rolled up. It rose up very nicely, but I shut it off soon after, I hadn't checked out the cooling system's health. It is still up on its tip-toes this morning, it doesn't sink quickly, I think that's a good thing. Also a good thing is how un-crusty it seems to be. A-pillars look minty-fresh. Paintwork: might respond well to a Beko-licking.New tyres all 'round, an'all. rob88h, eddyramrod, stillOrange and 1 other 4
barrett Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 I expect that bike to be fully serviced by next weekend! I don't have any spare Mk1 bits but happy to put a wanted ad in the CCC magazine if it would prove useful. Really does need the correct rear bumper, I reckon that will improve the looks by about 750% somewhatfoolish and KruJoe 2
KruJoe Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 If you could, Barret, that'd be ace. The bike now has a chain that stays on, and (some) gears that work. It's certainly an "interesting" thing to ride.
barrett Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 Send me a PM with any bits you might need and a contact number and I'll put one together in time for the next issue. Itera will be more of an object than a means of transport I imagine... RobT 1
gdhaydock Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 I have the video of its "First Start on the field of dreams" - just waiting for youtube to do its stuff and it'll appear here shortly KruJoe and stillOrange 2
