FredTransit Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Were you passing through time in your tardis?
pogweasel Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Hurrah!I have never dared actually stop there except for very late at night for a nose, as I have always suspected that the proprietor has a screw loose and may not enjoy being a 'tourist attraction'

trigger Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 What a real timewarp garage!, What are them prices, 1993?!.Someone posted a photo of that place up on the Google view thread the other week, was hoping someone might take some photos, Cheers!.
garycox Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 That Carlton is class! Is it some sort of museum or does he actually expect to sell at those prices?!
CortinaDave Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 If the SD1's a V8 and a minter they quite often seem to be up for 2.5 - 3k so its not that wild, the others are lunacy though!Three bags of sand for a C reg carlton estate???? it'll be sat there another 20 years I would have thought
FredTransit Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 is it some kind of dodge? Maybe the wife told him to get rid so he says they are for sale, but they are not selling....
trigger Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Just been checking some of them plates on the DVLA site, They all ahve been of the road a long time, The SD1 has been of since 1992, Wonder if he sells any?.
Spottedlaurel Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 The stuff outside the showroom definitely comes and goes, though even on those the prices are sometimes a bit optimistic. North Circular grime quickly makes them look like they’ve sat for a while. It was the Carlton I caught a glimpse of a couple or so years ago, when helping Baz collect his R11. Seth then went back and took a few photos, and after our get-together at The Ace a while back Wuvvum and I stopped and had a bit of a nose. Can’t remember seeing the Audi in there, but the Regata, SD1 and others were present. My guess is that he’s an elderly chap, perhaps owns the building and so isn’t concerned by rent. Likes selling a few motors to keep his mind busy, and wants to keep the showroom as a museum/shrine to happier times. Possibly a little romantic, but given the chance wouldn’t we like to do the same?I seem to recall that there’s a shop in the middle of the showroom frontage, had some quite old signage (Electrolux?) which harked back to even earlier times. Possibly visible just behind the N-reg Rover 200? Building certainly has the look of an older terrace of shops with flats over, where most of the ground floor was then opened up to create a modern showroom.Whatever, there’s obviously a story behind it. One day someone here needs to pluck up courage and find out more. Seth, you’re local and a polite young man. Maybe he has a stash of old BMC/BL/ARG parts? Be terrible to find out after the event, when suddenly everything disappears and such a fascinating little bit of history has gone.Found this snippet out about the company:Registered Number: 00678059 - Registered at Companies House on 16/12/1960Address: 375 NORTH CIRCULAR ROADNEASDENLONDONNW10 0HUCompany Type: Private Limited with share capital ? Company Status: Small unquoted company filing only a modified balance sheet ? Last Accounts Filed: For the period ending 31/03/2008Last Accounts Analysed: For the period ending 31/03/2008
Guest Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 As someone who spends a fair amount of time on Companies House, a seemingly small company being alive since 1960 is pretty impressive. Some of the windscreen cling stickers are terrific - "Rear Window Wiper", "Radio Cassette", "Rear Seat Belts", etc.
Station Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I would also say he's just doing it as a hobby. I admire what he's doing, it'd be nice to see some older 80's stuff in there, or if he doesn't want to sell anymore cars, just fill the whole place with 70's and 80's cars like it was 1986. Ahhhhh.
andrew e Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I met the owner (I think!) I stopped once when it was open, had a browse and he didn't mind, even offered us brochures; however I think there might be an egyptian style curse if you took one though He's a fair old boy, very dapper and was just doing a test drive(!) out the front, quite immpressive pulling a people carrier facing the wrong way straight onto the north circular The workshop round back, looks busy mind, you get to the service counter by squeezing through the middle of the showrooms, there was recent autodata stuff there, even though there were "Leycare" signs up and a mark 1 transit round the back! (As well as a another SD1, loads of lookups, and various shite. Some cracking stuff in the showroom on the walls. It shouldn't exist but it doers - the flats rent must weigh it all out, each flat has a 40's style glazed door
FredTransit Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Wait. There was a Mk1 transit. Was it a white harvey frost? Cos I have lost one off the radar.....
andrew e Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I *think* it was a lwb panel or bus..... have a visit Fred, its not far
trigger Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 It doesn't look like the cars at the front change hands that often, The Silver Toyota still there from this street map view although the Blue Bluebird has now gone. Look at the cars behind the place, Wonder how many little gems are hidden up there?...
FredTransit Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I *think* it was a lwb panel or bus..... have a visit Fred, its not far Until it was mentioned it's near the N. Circ I didn't realise ti's in London.
seth Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Only just noticed this thread. I thought someone from here had spoken to the man - Andrew e obviously. Stock up front does some to change reasonably often. He does seem to have picked up a bunch of late-ish Rovers of late. I should pluck up the courage and stop by again. SL, Hmmm, spares. Might not be much if its actually quite busy round the back. I am peeved I never properly investigated a long closed local garage that was knocked down a few years ago that in a previous life was where Speedwell Performance Conversions operated from in the early sixties. You could see stuff on shelving through an upstairs window....
andrew e Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Having checked, the 405 and cavailer are new arrivals, heres what was in a couple of years ago.... This was some of the junk round the back...
Guest Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 The abandoned garage I posted in 2007 was still there yesterday. The VW Beetle/Rover 100 had gone but the others are still left there Previous pic's herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/rootes_arr ... 128860904/
VWPowered Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 great pics, that mk2 astra looks in great nick
trigger Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 You my man are a legend! Thanks for posting the new pictures, Hasn't changed much has it, I wonder what the story is with them and why they still just sit there?.
brammy777 Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 i am having difficulty choosing which one id save....Either the Astra, 800, samara or metro.....The astra would be the wise choice, as it looks in ridiculously good condition, and is a 3 door, and we all know how things work with them.Strange that no ones stolen them.
vicsmith Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I`d actually like the slatty grille Mk3 Cavalier out of the second garage, getting rare now and they are such a brilliantly coherent piece of design work in my opinion. The first garage seems to have a two-tier pricing structure, inside the showroom reflects what these cars may have been worth in the early `90s, as someone said, outside I`d put it at about 2004, I remember getting grands for things like 214s and Mondeos on the "N" at that time.
FredTransit Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I have to drop in on the one on the N Circ, it's instant set dressing stock, if he's up for it.....
Pillock Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Haven't the prices all been dropped in that abandoned one?£499 for an 800 seems cheap enough, can't imagine that being the 2005-2006 price.
