The dirty tricks bit misses out 'beware 1981 Fiestas with the sill filled with B&Q expanding foam, trimmed back with a Stanley blade, given a coat of Hairy Mary (red welding, GRP paste) and then undersealed"...........:lol: Oddly enough, the cars on that list to avoid are just the sort of old toss that gets me moist now. I don't know what a Fiat London is or a Woooolsey, but who wouldn't want a Mark 1 Capri 1300?

@ The Reverend Bluejeans. The London bit is in regards to the fact he believed some makes models would never sell in a million years except to Londoners

 Cars to avoid? So tell me, what exactly was the Afur Daleys selling then? :?

In a moment of weakness I bought one that claimed to tell you how to get off with traffic offences. IIRC the advice was to be polite to the police when they stop you, which doesn't work.

I like how they've neglected to include FSO and Skoda in the list of lemons - I wonder how many would-be 1980s car sales entrepreneurs bankrupted themselves by stocking up on undesirable Polish/Czech junk

Doesn't seem to mention how our budding entrepeneur actually makes any money though. As far as I can tell, it seems to work like:1: Buy a shedload of mid range Cortinas2: Put them in your garden/lock up/garage.3: ??????4: Profit!

Of course at 115 pages there is a lot more than the above.

1: Buy a shedload of mid range Cortinas

If we knew then what we know now it would of been mk2 escorts and save them untill now

Wasn't the 1800 Marina the one which had the B-series, proving to be so heavy that it induced horrific understeer in early models? Ultimate autoshite, defective when new :)

And then Leyland Australia improved the understeer by putting the 2.2 six in the Marina :D

Yes, I bought this. Since "lent" it to someone, permanently it would seem.IIRC, the basic idea was to buy at auction, tart it up, and sell at auction. Small profit, no comeback.

I alway remember seeing these in the back pages of Autocar and What Car in the 80's - wondered what it was all about. Certainly more fun than some of the 'get rich quick' schemes - I remember sending off for one when I was at school - the summary of which was 'place an advert telling folk how to get rich quick by buying this £10 guide.....'

My search facility is in having its DMF changed today.

I picked up a copy years ago, 50p from a charity shop, wasn't worth it. I reckon that cockney twat on wheeler dealers must have sent off for a copy back in the day, and a monster was born.

Yes, I too bought Pepipoo: The Novel. I later felt a little daft for doing so. The only tip I recall was to ask for the speed gun calibration paperwork.

I also remember getting a chain letter shortly afterwards where you sent £10 to a someone on a list, added your name at the bottom and then sent the letter on to as many people as you could. If you wanted some extra addresses, you could buy a sheet of addresses on stickers if you sent off to... yes, the people who sold the book.
