The other thing is to run the oil level just above minimum which is more than enough. They don't like the level to be max or above. I changed the box oil on mine at 90k and what came out was still clean and golden so it had been changed before. The turbo is just a generic Garrett that is virtually identical to what BMW and Audi use. Mush easier to get at and replace as well.

Laguna are also piss easy to work on mechanically. Cam belts are simple, window regs a piece of piss.

Without the electrical dramas you'd actually recommend one.

Interesting you say that, the oil display is 3 lines down. Was going to check the levels in the week and maybe top it up. Will see what the dipstick says! It'll be a few months before I change the oil on it, ill wait for the mot first!

Oh, and Amy drove it and nearly gave it her seal of approval!

Eva gave it hers though, she likes the fluffy doors (door cards)

Haven't yet told her she can't sit in the front, as I can't turn the airbag off (would the plug for my front airbag switch be there I wonder?)

Posted

Might be too early a model for that. Is it possible to retrofit the isofix mount from the other to this ph1?

Posted

Not checked the iso fix mounts yet. Tbh the children so rarely go in it I'm not too fussed, especially since I don't mind driving the Zafira and it seems amy doesn't mind driving this, we can just swap the cars rather than the car seats. I'll keep the awesome rear seat cubby hole a secret until eva is next in it/starts asking to sit in the front!

Posted

The talking computer controls are next to the parking sensor/traction control disable switches on the right. Near-ish to where the electronic handbrake is on the ph2.

It hasn't got it. Just the dash and headlight adjustments, and a grille.

Posted

I think the manwel for my 2001 shed claimed it had ISOfix, not sure if it was front or rear though.

Posted

I've just been reading the manual, it shows it on the rears so Charlie's seat will be ok

Posted

Cool. I didn't take much notice only having dogs to put in there.

ETA, I think my ex used it one day with a friend's kids in. A couple of days later it suffered total leccy failure & didn't move for weeks....

That's just when they're rear facing in a starter seat. If they're sat the right way round in a forward facing one then the airbag is their friend.

Oooh that's handy! I need to read the regs tbh, but she's in a seat belt seat now (no straps, just the belt that goes round).

I think the point about the sunroof earlier was to make sure the drain in the wheelarch isn’t blocked so it doesn’t flood the body computer and cause all sorts of amusing* shenanigans.

Posted

I've just remembered the name of that body ECU, it's the UCH which I think thanks for Unreliable Crap Heap :D

Good point... I'll have a think! But I can't say I'm gagging to swap them.

Once I get used to having to push a button on the card, actually insert it into the dash, hold the start button until the engine starts, turn my own lights on and operate my own handbrake I won't care about the spec. Infact already loving operating my own handbrake, was a 'sit on my brakes in N' wanker before as I was scared to out the auto handbrake on whilst at the front of a queue at lights...

Does this not have auto lights? The windscreen seems to have the sensor on it with the box round it for them and the rain sensor wipers.

I’d be stealing the alloys off the 55 plater, and probably anything else that’s better spec and the correct colour on the inside, id be using it as a spares car for anything that works and may possibly fail on the 51 plate before scrapping the rest.

Expression isn’t a bad spec for a 2nd from base, the Authentique was truly miserable. Best was the Dynamique with its comfy half leather, lovely 17” alloys and high spec but not too much to go wrong or too fancy and pointless.

Aye, airbags should be turned off for rear facing seats - because if the airbag goes off, it's not a nice soft cushiony pillow that meets baby's head, it's the plastic car seat that hits them, propelled by the airbag. Bad news.

Forward facing is fine, the AA recommend that the seat is slid back as far as it will go - meaning that with properly adjusted straps, the airbag probably won't deploy far enough to meet the child. Even if it does though, that's what they're designed to do.

I had only the first stage airbags go off in my Saab however the force from the passenger airbag was strong enough to smash the front windscreen. They looks like big squishy cushions in the slow speed crash test videos. The reality is it's like being punched in the face.

Personally they're better off in the back, even with a proper seat. I seem to remember being told/reading that child's heads and bodies can't really withstand the forces of an airbag on them until around the age of 11.

There’s an etching on the front door window glass on my old mans 63 plate mk4 Mondeo which basically shows that you shouldn’t put a forward facing child seat in the front seat at all which I was a bit surprised by.

Beko, I’d be surprised if there’s not a deactivation switch in a Lag II even an early one because mk2 ph2 Clio’s from Y plate had them fitted.

Posted

The recommendation is that child seats only go in the front if there's no alternative, although there's no laws on this. But no, that age Laguna doesn't have a deactivation - I remember a guy I worked with bought one and had the same bother.

I cleaned those out when I first got it, along with getting the horn to work.

So 3 jobs this lunchtime! First was swap the wheels over. This will confuse the hardcore renault lickers, ph2 initiale alloys on a ph1 expression

post-5612-0-43787300-1511790889_thumb.jpg

Rear pads are very low, so a job for the list

post-5612-0-87960800-1511790925_thumb.jpg

It had new genuine rear bushes 4 years ago and this one looks fine

post-5612-0-53446500-1511790962_thumb.jpg

I then shuffled them about, after having to jump start the old one

post-5612-0-31614800-1511791000_thumb.jpg

This is the only crust on a brake pipe I could see from a glance in my work clothes, will have a proper look soon. Someone on the renault facebook group is jumping up and down about it being an MOT fail, I hope he's not correct...

post-5612-0-73891000-1511791028_thumb.jpg

The other Bush seems fine

post-5612-0-81698400-1511791107_thumb.jpg

Then the jack from the new one snapped it's handle, so I got the car off it with my proper jack, and robbed the jack from the old car

post-5612-0-59303900-1511791161_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-51138800-1511791190_thumb.jpg

Done, ok tyres once more!

post-5612-0-09225200-1511791233_thumb.jpg

Then I moved onto the jerky driver's window and inoperable wing mirrors, and upon removing the mirror switch it wasn't plugged in, the plus was nearly falling into the door, so I fished it out

post-5612-0-57149800-1511791302_thumb.jpg

However the French balance was restored by the other window switch pack not fixing the jerky window, and now the rears don't work either (we had one down yesterday, still not touched the front passenger one yet as that's broken). Still, at least I can have a fag with the window dropped an inch!

Hoping to get the stereo stripped out of the blue one tomorrow and maybe even fitted, depends how long it takes, and swap the heater controls as the one in the new one doesn't light up.

I then went up the road to check all was ok and it seems to be, so will see what the drive home is like. The brakes need bleeding too, their a bit soft, will get the rear pads changed first though.

Already sold the towbar pending it's removal.

Only got one fitted mudflap anyway on the old one, but the one that isnt fitted is in the boot, may have a look at it.

The door handles on the old one are well scratched up, so won't bother swapping those

Jerky window? as in it only goes down an inch or so, stops then moves another inch?

TADTS!

it's the one touch window needing resetting. Wind it right down & keep holding the button down for about 3 secs. It'll work then & your one touch window will function.

Yep, that's the one, but resetting it does nothing, I've tried (very used to doing it when the battery dies on the blue one)

Fucked then :D

Dunno mate, I thought they'd detect the end of travel on the motor or something. No idea if it doesn't work.

Oh I'd keep the spare window switches if you can, they are a very common failure as you can tell by the hundreds on them on ebay at £15-20.

I need to swap the front passenger window regulator apparently (it makes grindy noises, not touched it yet) and if at the end of it I don't want to kill myself I'll have the drivers one swapped too! Not sure why the rear ones don't work, but franky I don't care, the glass isn't sellotaped up to the door so it's better than the other one! (someone already wants the two mechanisms so can't swap those)

Will keep the window switches, good idea! 3 of the buttons light up in the new car, so that's nice!

Posted

Window mechs are a doddle, the trick is to get the window at the right height when you start. Otherwise you can't get the clips off, which are around the back of the glass as you reach in & slide along the glass to unclip. That isn't explained well in the HBOL so took me 5mins of swearing to work out.

Well, my first drive home and....

Oooooow my left leg!

Positive is the intermittent wipers control the actual speed of the wipers! Not the rain sensor, where you could be driving blind with rain but because one drop hasn't hit the sensor at exactly the right place, it won't auto wipe, requiring a manual flick! Their almost as nice as the intermittent on the xm, but not quite. The stalk on that was lovely!

Gave it a bit of a prod with oh no renault this morning.

The engine has the same code as the old car!

post-5612-0-73135000-1511864371_thumb.png

Cleared that, then onto the abs

post-5612-0-35950600-1511864396_thumb.png

Interesting. Cleared those too, with the mot in Jan, and no lights on the dashboard I'm not going to go poking around for now!

Then the airbags

post-5612-0-29945800-1511864439_thumb.png

Dunno if this is just due to a flat battery at some point, but I cleared those (infact I got out of the car just incase the app maker built an Easter egg into the app and the air bags went off...

Then read the engine again and got these two codes up as stored

post-5612-0-23901100-1511864508_thumb.png

These won't clear, so they can stay! Still no dash lights so that's fine, I won't prod the beast too much yet!
