Driving well, a 6th gear is taking some getting used to, and I keep putting it in 5th not 3rd... 52.4mpg so far too!

Its got the best cup holder I've had on any car though! Ive bought a coffee just to celebrate

It might be drinkable by oxfordshire! Going to make a few rollies and leave Peterborough services and head home, so over and out for now!

Does this have the talking computer? One thing that I really wish they didn't get rid of it on later ones. However saying that, it's purpose in life seems to be either telling you off if you haven't belted up or to report (yet another) electrical fault.

It is indeed. It is a very capable bus, and has a fair bit of history with it.

I gave it a wash today ready for it's new home but I'm sure Sam will do it properly when he gets time!

That's the one thing mine didn't do. I just refused to lock for a month till I replaced the body ECU

I never bothered locking mine at all. Every time you use that bastard keycard you're tempting fate.

1.9dci?

Reckon so.

I really liked mine as it goes, 54 plate pre arselift 1.9DCi Sport Tourer. It had done 100'000 when acquired yet was rattle free, was very comfy, drove superbly and not a lot was wrong with it. Just a drivers window reg and a busted front spring, original gearbox and turbo. What I thought would be an appalling pile of shit was actually a very good car.

Home now!

Many thansk Tim, sorry to drag you back from the christmas fair, but at least you could go back with cash!

Immediate thoughts:

53.4mpg over 150 miles, including getting lost in bloody lincolnshire and coming home via northampton as I could not be bothered with Aylesbury tonight, with some GLF where appropriate and many miles sat at 80, could get used to that!

Seat needs further adjustment, not quite as supportive as the leather in the ph2 but more comfy overall so will look at that

Climate control panel doesn't light up. Happily it's identical to my other one, so that'll get swapped!

Some thing all over the windscreen that isn't splatter, will investigate that with some glass polish

Fuck me it's different to reverse with the massive rear pillars!

Lack of useable storage compared to the ph2

MUCH better headlights, I could see so much better with them, much better angle of pattern!

Enough service history for me to beat my children with

It feel's more wafty than the other one. Much softer suspension, vague but direct steering. The shocks on the other one must have been fucked as this rides totally differently!

Tim, is it your CD in the player? Do you want it back?

Will have a better look in the daytime. Annoyingly it has the steering wheel radio controls, which my other one has but has never worked. I quite like it, might have to buy the adapter for my pioneer head unit when that goes in...

So there we go, the man who swapped a 2.2dci for a 1.9dci. MOT is up at the end of Janaury and it had an advisory for a crusty brake pipe last year so I won't do too much until then, and will have a look at the brake pipe. Have a fair list to strip out of the ph2 gooner, including any bits I find that I need, then that can go for scrap.

Cost a bloody fortune compared to the old one, but I've had my turn of a free car, thanks for that Kiltox, was much appreciated. I know your probably not too sad to see it fragged...

I've not found a talking thing, there's no button on the end of the indicator stalk though, although will be when I swap the one from mine on as it doesn't always self cancel (although tbh I usually manually cancel them way before they auto cancel).

Didn't press many buttons, didn't want to tempt fate 100 miles from home!

It is BLOODY odd not having the dash screen infront of me though. It has the little computer in the bottom right, but nothing infront bar the VERY BRIGHT low fuel light that came on at 137 miles left after leaving tims. I put £40 in (and forgot the pez shot, I'm so sorry, was talking to my Dad) and gave it all a bloody good reset so it should be OK now!

balls of steel

for most of use, once bitten twice shy

Ah, haven't been bitten yet! I'm running from the first one before that happens as I feel it's imminent! WCPGW?

Why not upgrade the seats and the like in this with the other Laguna? Given its an early one it may still have the wiring there for it (they cut back later on lower trims).

A lot of the parts should fit.

The talking computer controls are next to the parking sensor/traction control disable switches on the right. Near-ish to where the electronic handbrake is on the ph2.

My third party cover has always said with the owners permission.

Also, my lease car has a fixed list of people that can drive it - anyone who works for my employer, and the spouses of. That's not just an insurance thing, that's who they (as the car owner) have given permission to drive. Anyone else would technically be TWOC. I forget the wording but it does make it clear nobody else is to drive it without written permission (and good luck finding someone to talk to to get that)

This makes sense, I can't drive my stepdads company car unless he specifically gives my details to his employer. Presume this works the same way since motability is a fancy word for a lease car!

Found out why he was so tired though, he's got a little job driving a flatbed transit for a mate's glazing company, and did nearly 10 hours driving wednesday, 400 miles thursday, took my grandad to papworth on Friday to be discharged after his heart op and then came to mine today then drove me to Tim's.

Told him to take it easier in future!

Plus side he got to see a real clag cloud earlier as I got infront of him after putting some fuel in, and fucking booted it and cleaned it out nicely! Then lost him as he got stuck behind a lorry until I pulled over at a town and he led the way again. Did the same near home and no clag, so that's good!

A brief warning and hopefully not to put you off too much, but this age is when Renault hadn't ironed out any of the kinks in them. That was really only until around 2003. Hopefully as it's lasted this long, most of the fixes have been retrofitted by Renault! Or basic enough trim to not have parts that cause trouble (e.g. sunroof).

I'm really tempted to, the seats will fit (and I don't care that they will look stupid), but I don't want to spend ages taking them out and find there's no wiring for the motors or heaters!

Please tell me they will fit Mr SIC!

Although the velour ones are more squishy and comfy, if I play with the levers and get it sorted I'll probably just leave them, never been a massive fan of leather, if it's there it's there but it doesn't make or break a car for me. I just need a bit of lower back support

I'll have a read of the history and see what it's had. It has a sunroof but I never use them anyway, so that's not a massive issue! The passenger window mech is apparently fubar (again I haven't touched it yet) but I plan to swap the mech from YT55 into it as that works perfectly!

Actually, the front drivers window goes up and down in stages (and I tried to reset it), what controls the movement? Is it the switch pack? Which I can swap... Wing mirrors seem not to move either, not checked fuses yet but will keep the mirror switch from YT55 and see if that sorts it! Luckily their set perfectly as they are so not a big thing!

Piece of piss to fix though, lever them open with a stanley knife & solder the snapped connector back to the battery tray. I had to do mine when I replaced the body ECU and the new card was faulty.

Not sure about the heated, but the moving mechanism should be able to be wired up to power and work. Not connecting the CAN lines mean they won't auto move with the keycards but that's not a bad thing anyway. Plus I don't think this age could do that anyway.

I seem to remember a thread on Renault forums of someone retrofitting them. Iirc, they wired it up to the cigarette lighter feed.

Top spec Lagunas did have electric seats with heaters from an early age, so the wiring maybe there. What trim level is this? I'm guessing expression or dynamique going by the old style steering wheel with no cruise.

I've read that thread too! The drivers seat won't get moved once it's set, I could transplant it now and it work. I'll fiddle with the existing seat in the week and see what happens!

Its an expression! Quite what it expresses I don't know though... Tbh slightly miss the cruise already, and the foot rest but I'll get used to it!

I'm also shocked at how poor my manual driving is! Was properly misjudging approaching junctions, changing down too soon etc and did forget to change from 6th a few times... Hopefully that will sort itself out though in time.

Expression is one up from base spec. I think you need the seat being able to move otherwise it won't pass an MOT.

Going to enjoy going through all this!

Good point... I'll have a think! But I can't say I'm gagging to swap them.

Once I get used to having to push a button on the card, actually insert it into the dash, hold the start button until the engine starts, turn my own lights on and operate my own handbrake I won't care about the spec. Infact already loving operating my own handbrake, was a 'sit on my brakes in N' wanker before as I was scared to out the auto handbrake on whilst at the front of a queue at lights...

Speaking of which, whatever happened to R9UKE?

Hasn't changed one jot.

Still very much active on the FB page, just not so much here. Running a car sales business, selling some nice unusual motors plus writing some of the most hilarious ads for total shitheap trade-ins you're ever likely to read.

I understand he had a good old catch-up with some AS regulars over at the NEC the other week.

Top lad, we've swapped a few cars over the years. My silver Laguna RN was via him.

Glad you got back ok matey, sorry it was a bit if a rush about or you and your dad could have stopped for a brew!

I like the way the "expression" badge is hidden in the glove box, I thought it it should be followed by "for fuck's sake" or similar.

the 1.9dci engine likes clean oil.

Probably a bit overkill but I was changing my oil and filter every 3-4000 miles (the owner of the donor car of which the replacement engine came from was a Renault main dealer mechanic, he had been doing this and recommended I did the same)

I changed the air filter every other oil change.

It's just preventative maintenance. My thoughts were it's better to do that than leave it and risk the dreaded diesel run away which these do when the oil return pipe from the turbot gets blocked.

They are good motors though. Mine would always average 53mpg no matter how hard I drove it and was realistically the epitome of reliability. I know, I know, words that don't usually go with Renault and Diesel.

It really was a go anywhere car.

That reminds me, I really must sell that car. I just don't particularly want to part with it
