Anyone know what dizzy this is, 1991 Mini Mayfair 998cc

Here's the bumfluff...Took the mini into local garage,asked the guy to give it a good service (I'd just bought the car)....oil + filters,plugs points,cap + rotor,adjust h/brake  owt else.

Got the car back running great. 10 months down the line only running on 3, checked it out ...dizzy cap inside contact "pips" worn.

So got a new cap + rotor off fleabay, by looking for Click on style cap complete with rotor.

Anyhow it fitted.

It was only when I "NOTICED" the POINTS  I thought...TWAT!!! the guy in the garage told me They always run great these MINI'S,this ones got ELECTRONIC IGN , first turn of the key.

SO somewhere along the road in ten months My "electronic ignition" has fell off and it's grown a set of fuckin points???

Must admit with the working conditions ...in the street.cold.going dark, bent over like a bleedin gold prospector, and a bad back + last but not least age,I trusted in that guy.

So anyone know if it(DIZZY) is a 25D4 or a 45D4.

If I new for deffo I'm considering a REAL electronic dizzy

Run a nail file through it and set them at 15 thou, see you right for a bit.

I ran a Lumenition points replacement 30 yrs ago and it worked well.

25D4 has vernier a/r adjustment, 45d4 does not, they are interchangeable but you need to get the right electronic gubbins for the type you have.  Or replace the whole thing with your choice of make/break arrangement.    Simonbbc on Ebay.......

has kept me supplied with reliable electronic sparkery for many years.   As 5speedracer says, 15 thou point adjustment is going to be fine to keep you going until then.

That'll be a 59D or 65D if it's from a 1991 car, or a Ducellier if you're really lucky*.

Lucas 59D because blue heel slidey points. Not 65D as they have two screws that hold the cap on instead of clips.

There's a felt pad missing too.

Nowt wrong with correctly adjusted points.

Would have thought a 1991 Mini would be electronic though?

I say you have a result !   points are great

It was probably born with electronic ignition but very likely conked out with a burnt out module on the side of the dizzy in the mid 90's  then burnt out the replacement and the owner got fed up and fitted a points  distributor

I don't think they got electronic until later - a housemate had an 'H' reg one at the turn of the century and it had points from new.  It also had the HS carb, rather than the HIF that everything else had in the Austin rover range.

+1, those kits are cheap, reliable and easy to install ! I will actually be buying one for the 45D dizzy in my Doloshite in the immediate future.
