Junkman Posted February 15, 2017 Author Posted February 15, 2017 So the sooner I have it painted grey, the better?
vulgalour Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 For this and many other reasons, yes. Junkman 1
Noel Tidybeard Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 maybe it should be Mango with tobbaco interior Junkman 1
rml2345 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Whatever colour it becomes it will be most handsome indeed, the series one cars are by far the best looking IMHO.If it had been a tourer I'd have literally burst with jealousy but as a saloon it can just about be contained by emergency jealousy measures. You fabulous bastard. Junkman, rrsix and cms206 3
Honey Badger Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I seem to be the only one who prefers the series 2 cars, I think the plastic black grill is much better looking than the chrome. Either way P6 ownage is for winners which ever car you have, enjoy the new car. Twiggy and Junkman 2
Junkman Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 No, I must say I also think the facelift worked extremely well.
Junkman Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 You know you like a car when you do stuff to it that isn't really necessary. This is a steering wheel: It suffers from an advanced state of decay and purefaction: So I changed it for the steering wheel that was in the car years ago: I installed the only bearable infotainment system known to intelligent forms of life: Replacement panels collection has commenced with obtaining this wing: Note the freebie taillight, something that delights a miserly cheapskate like me much more than it should. johngarty, Springer, mat_the_cat and 11 others 14

scruff Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 That car is disgustingly fit. I think the slightly shabby exterior just adds to the appeal. Absolute top swappage Junkdude. Junkman 1

Shep Shepherd Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Oh, and I was told the car has a quite interesting* history - it once belonged to Danny Hopkins of Craptical Plastics. I saw it for the first time years ago, when it was owned by a chap in Blackpool, who installed a ZF4HP22 upgrade.I bought the leftover original gearbox off him, which not much later grenaded in the haunted Rover of Doom.As I said earlier, it currently has a fresh BW35 since Mad Manx Man uses the ZF in one of his other cars. Oh, and the original steering wheel from it has been hanging on a hook in my cellar for years. Don't ask. I wondered why the number plate looked familiar. It looks a lot better with the standard wheeltrims and blackwalls, as opposed to the Rostyle lookalikes and whitebands that it had when it was featured in PC. I didn't realise it had been the subject of a colour change at some point before DH owned it, though. Junkman 1
chaseracer Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 I have been Junk-chauffeured in this marvellous vehicle. Verdict: ACE. Junkman and Magnificent Rustbucket 2

Magnificent Rustbucket Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Those seats are just marvellous. One of my Grandfathers was tremendously keen on Rovers and the P6 particularly. He owned a considerable number of them in the 'sixties and 'seventies. Interestingly, he preferred the pre-facelift cars. I can't remember why though. He had one in the same colour as this 3500 and one also in the original Tobacco leaf too. I don't remember either of them, he had them before I was born and I have only seen them in photos. I do remember an Almond one he bought in about 1973 though; it's one of my earliest car memories. These Rovers really suited him and he was bereft when they stopped making them. He used to joke he didn't need to test drive cars - he knew he wanted a Rover. Shortly before he died, I took him shopping at a supermarket in Knutsford. Parked by the entrance was a 3500. It was absolutely immaculate and in Almond, with cream leather seats - very similar to one he had owned. He paused a while and gently touched the rear wing, thinking of better days, and all that time had stolen from him. BorniteIdentity, They_all_do_that_sir, mercrocker and 6 others 9
Junkman Posted February 26, 2017 Author Posted February 26, 2017 Sadly the single front seat squab is rather torn, so I might need two further front seat squabs. The rear seats and armrests are in remarkably good condition, so are the front seat backs,of which only one has a tear in the vinyl covered back cover plate.Depending on how good the dying process (see what I did there?) works, I should be ableto make a good red set out of what I have.I will make new doorcards and the rest of the trim is vinyl, so it shouldn't be too difficult tomake it red as well. seth Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Great to meet you if only briefly.I had thought about sitting on a Rover seat while piloting the Hillman but decided that might not work out. Skizzer, Junkman, chaseracer and 1 other 4
Junkman Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 It was entirely my pleasure. Many, many thanks again!Next time you hopefully have the time for a cuppa and a tour of the Junkmansion. I suggest you to get a full set of Rover seats - in their original packaging.
Guest Breadvan72 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 I recall that when I was in the Air Cadets in the 1970s the Squadron Warrant Officer had a tobacco coloured P6. He once gave a couple of us spotty oiks a lift in it on the way back from some do or other. The seats were covered with thick clear plastic covers, which struck me then as now as naff. Junkman 1
Junkman Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 I'd love to have those seats now, though. They must be mintola.Besides, I've heard there are people who have that shit on their settee.
Magnificent Rustbucket Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I saw a Ford Cortina about five or six years ago which still had the plastic covers on the seats. It was remarkable. The car looked well used but cared for in the way cars owned by elderly people sometimes do.
drum Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Those new seats are v nice. You'll have to change the colour of your driving gloves now though. Junkman 1
Junkman Posted February 28, 2017 Author Posted February 28, 2017 I like contrasts. mercrocker and drum 2
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I prefer the later grille myself, but the earlier leather interior and 2000 steering wheel. The original 2000 dash is a work of art. When you think the 2000 was being made at the same time as the Morris Oxford - how modern must it have been?
Junkman Posted February 28, 2017 Author Posted February 28, 2017 Although I'm not at all adverse to the facelift models, the G-planness of the Series 1s is delightful. We all know that the P6 launch in 1963 was a sensation. It immediately went on to become Europe's first COTY of evah. Junkman and Shep Shepherd 2
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 This is flawless: I have encouraged JM to remove the rev counter and install the 'floating' clock as above. The Reverend Bluejeans, Shep Shepherd, Magnificent Rustbucket and 2 others 5
