Junkpersonage no likey shake it all about gear stickery.

I'm sure there are far more serious defects he could find with it than the gearbox.

I know it is a bit modern, but it wouldn't be hard to reverse-engineer this to 1986.

Ticks most boxes I think and you can pretend you're a mid 90's gangster wherever you go.

Insufficient pot count.

Seriously, get an STS. They're reasonably modern (though the youngest will be 15 years old now) in terms of things that work, like electrics and stuff, but they've got all of the correct period features (crap handling, massive fuel consumption, appalling interior, too large to park anywhere) of a mid/late 80's Yank Tank. Plus they come in a range of deeply unattractive colours.

And you can get a decent one for about £1500.

What's not to like?

FWD.

There would appear to be only one answer, affordable RWD V8 that's not from The Axis countries and if you're not quite caddish enough for a Wardour St Bentley, why the real thing of course.

The trades mans upholstery could be easily fixed with some of these

I think the gentleman should obtain a Stage 1 V8 Land Rover Station Wagon. I appreciate that he will not want to change gear himself, but the handy middle front seat should be occupied by someone to push the clutch and move the gearstick as required

HOW MUCH??????

Huggy is significantly cheaper, with the added advantages of free road tax and RWD.  Bloody hell, if a girls' Cadillac is worth 6k, what's the world coming to?

Good cars are not to be searched for, they stray crash into your house.

That is remarkably true. Cars find you, not you them.
